Charles needs a good start but the 'tow' is less effective now with the new aero configurations. We shall see. ALso Sainz needs to distract Max as well.
I assume almost everyone is happy going into tomorrow. I sure am. I'm happy for Ferrari, and I'm happy for Alfa Romeo (Bottas) and Haas. It will be fun watching Bottas start next to Lewis. And I wonder how agressive Russell will be against Lewis. I think that Ferrari had the pace for a 1, 2 today. Race pace may not be as strong, but we will learn for sure tomorrow. I'm very happy to see Mercedes struggling, but we can't expect them to roll over and give up. They will be a threat all season, and Ferrari must keep the pressure on to constantly improve. Sainz took full responsibility for being 3rd and not 2nd. I like that. Max seemed a little surprised to find himself in P2. I love having Alfa and Haas in the top ten. I'll be back tomorrow and hopefully Ferrari will have a victory under its belt.
It's more fun to just follow along as the season progresses and see whether he goes the Vettel route.
Autosport pushing the “Ferrari has more drag with big sidepods” theory even if fastest in FP3 and faster than a lot of other cars in Q (including Mercs) though probably carrying added downforce: “Ferrari, which has bigger sidepods than its closest rivals and therefore could be being held back by additional straight-line drag as a result, was 11th and 12th on 316.6km/h for Leclerc and 315.9km/h for Sainz.” Meanwhile, Toto Wolff says that the current Merc deficit is coming more from the chassis side than the engine: "Our data shows that we are running with more drag. Our deficits in the chassis area are bigger than those in the engine." With hybrid cars, it not always entirely accurate to figure out the top speeds. Quite a bit can come down to energy deployment. How long they are at max battery drain, how much power the motor is putting out above 300 kph. Though I suspect very similar strategies in quali. Of course drag. Wing levels, body work, and now porpoising drag. Lets not forget flexy aero bits. Horsepower, goes far beyond peak power. If the PU makes peak power at say 11,000 rpm, how much power is it making at 11400 (around 315-320 kph) with the battery drain low or off? From the onboards Ferrari definitely had more acceleration onto the two long straights, and Red Bull has impressive speed above 300 kph. I expected Ferrari to have one of the lower drag cars, I didn't expect Red Bull to be so good.
Dear Ferrari - please lock all your strategists up in the bathroom before the race starts… thank you Signed all Tifosi

Okay, another way of saying: how many dog cars has Hamilton driven? 2009 McLaren? He's been in top machinery pretty much for his whole career. So for a change, it'll be fascinating to see him starting in the back(ish) and not expected to overtake six cars within the first five laps.
The good news is that all those who proclaimed Hamilton’s performance last year in Brazil, 100% his incredible skill and not his car, we’ll get to see him blow through the field tomorrow in about 5 laps and dominate for the win.
