I heard Toto say the Merc is ''the draggiest car on the field"...which I found really quite odd. Unless my understanding of aerodynamics is less than zero, I'd think the car is actually one of the least if not THE least draggy of them all! I think it more likely has to do with the engine and presumably higher than they like ride height in order to combat porpoising. IF it is the engine that would be a mad precedent, engines are now locked for the next 3 years. There is some evidence that points it to the engine...the bottom 4 cars are all Mercedes engined cars, then we have norris in 13, Russel in 9 and Lewis in 5th...the Mercedes IMO very low drag cars allowing it to be competitive. Furthermore that it could be the engines is the change to E10 fuel. Last year's final upgrade of the Mercedes engines ensured it was a ridiculously overpowered engine. But E10 fuel has a nasty trait: It causes engines to knock earlier. Could it be that what they did was advance the timing so much resulted in the engine power? But now with the E10 fuel they can't do this any longer and their engine suffered as a result. Either way, I hope the Mercedes doesn't advance any further as it does give me joy. Especially knowing how Mercedes bleated on about not upgrading their 2021 car to focus on 2022 (and we know that was a lie)... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Should be a great 1st race, I’m looking forward to -Ferrari and RBR go 2 on 2. Perez might be 4th but his tire management might help -Next battle is HAM vs BOT and MAG. Can’t wait for this, PLUS -the rest of the top 10 try to move up, lots of battles here, with Mick surely headed for lots of points this year -No idea what’s wrong with McLaren -Hulk should stay ahead of Stroll -Also feeling bad for Williams, ouch!
What he said was it’s proven that Hamilton can’t drive well in close competition’. I find that to be simply inaccurate. McLaren 2009-2012 were not 1 second up on the field. Neither was the 2007-2008 cars. Neither was 2017, 2018, or 2021 cars.
Looking at the top speeds that's my assumption as well. Did RBR go too low downforce simply and lost out that way? Considering how good the Ferrari is coming out of the slow corners that could well be the reason. Ferrari is MIGHTY in S2. Corners 6 all the way to 13 they're unbeatable.
So I'm trying to do a hard re-set for this season, and I'm finding it difficult. Like many of you who hang out here, I own Ferraris (In my case, a Pista and a Challenge Stradale). I have been a Ferrari fan for longer than I can remember, but we've been outside the hunt for the WCC for so long that I devolved into rooting against Mercedes, simply because I grew so dang tired of their hubris. It became so bad that if someone asked me who my favorite F1 driver was, my response was "anyone who beats Mercedes." Someone pinch me...it seems that Merc is presently flat footed, and the bold new Ferrari is at the vanguard. Yes, I know it's early, but I'll take it, even if it's for the weekend. Forza Ferrari, boys.
It's opposite day at Merc....every. damn. day. Need I remind you? "these tires are crap!!!!" every. damn. race. sjd
Helmut marko say the ferrari engine is a rocket, my opinion about the engine is not yet fully used at full power because of the reability.Ferrari engines are the only that uses e10 ethanol of the second generation(which is made in brazil),this offers a small power avantage, but most important you could uses more powerful engine modes for a longer time.I expect the avantage of the ferrari engine to be bigger în the race.
You can't be serious. The 2007 and 2008 McLaren's were championship level cars. 1 sec up? No, but absolutely championship level. 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2020 the rest of the field was nowhere. Mercedes simply had too much power. 2018 was decided on engine power after Mercedes came back over the summer with upgrades. After that, Vettel stood zero chance against Hamilton. 2021 almost went the same way as 2018 and 2017. That Mercedes PU was getting Hamilton damn near 6 tenths over Max at times in those final four races. He wasn't driving allegedly brilliant races. He was driving by on the straights. It wasn't the driver doing that. And yes, all of this also applies to Vettel's years at RBR.
Did I say he drove bad cars or that it’s inaccurate to say he can’t handle driving close with other competitors?
Never ever underestimate your competition's ability to come back. You can never ever let up in your push to beat them, no matter how good you look today. Tomorrow is the race and Mercedes will not give up trying until the checkered flag falls.
Not that it matters but the 46 was outlawed, otherwise it would have inhaled the WCC easily. It wasn’t a good look for Bernie at the time so he agreed to put it back on the trailer indefinitely. I thought the ‘86 BT 55 slither was going to be another winning Gordon Murray revolution but sadly it didn’t work out that way.
I got that from your post. I only care about WDC. That said, from a Ferrari perspective a year in which they never score a single victory to me is a lost year and a loser car. As long as they manage to pull one out of the bag, I consider it a successful year. Of course the more the merrier and all that.
