Other teams complain about the budget cap (implying they would be happy to spend more) but they do not want to invest in a B team themselves... Nothing prevents them of doing that, Mercedes could do it with Williams and Ferrari could do it with Haas (or Sauber/Alfa when it was there).
I don't think Newey would leave just like that to be honest. Jonathan Wheatly would very likely get the TP job, if not Newey himself. I think RB would bend over backwards to keep Newey. The only reason he considered leaving for Ferrari was because the Renault engine was so god-awful and he felt (and to this day is proven correct) Renault had zero ambition to actually improve it, seeing F1 purely as a marketing exercise). RB is the only team he felt to have proper freedom and control to create his vision. Whilst Ferrari is doing some thing better now, it's still a political minefield. He's older now, too. Does he really want to move abroad and start over?
He would be the Ferrari savior, Succeeding where others miserably failed since 2007. Not a money problem but a very satisfying thing for his hidden ego. I’m pretty sure Ferrari is also ready to propose him to design a hypercar with a screaming V12!
This beastie was at the end of the paddock this past weekend. It's a Mclaren MP4/23(2008) 2.4ltr V8 NA good for 850hp and probably 900hp(quali trim). No KERS. Still draws a crowd. Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date
AN is 65, and I know he has wanted to retire at least once before. I wouldn't be surprised if he has one foot out the door. What's left to do, anyway? He's already proven himself a dozen times over.
he would surely become the biggest design legend of all time if he gets Ferrari out from it's mess. However...I don't think Ferrari is interested in becoming WDC winners. The same goes with their road cars now. Hideously overweight, poor sounding engines. They're an accessory. Gordon Murray has shown it is indeed possible to create super lightweight cars with the most glorious V12 of all time. Weight HALF what a 296 weighs. Half! Ferrari is taking hte lazy route of just adding more and more power to offset the increase in weight. I'm not saying Ferrari should Match the GMA cars kg for kg...but absolutely it should be realistic to be no more than 150kg away whilst keeping cost under control. I think he wants to do the 2026 car and then call it a day.
Very valid points Especially about their road cars.. One can hope things would change on both sides ..
How? It's not like RB have re-invented the wheel like MercedesAMGF1 in 2014 with the turbo-hybrid formula and the FIA's token system.....now that was easy.
The RB is displaying an advantage similar to what Merc had. Only difference Max has both the advantage with the RB, and also enjoying it with lesser team mates. Rosberg, Bottas will wipe the floor with Perez.
I'm agreeing on the cars back then as well as the rules. 80's and 90's drivers had 1 hand on the wheel and the other on the shift knob. 2000's Drivers had paddle shifts on the steering wheels.
RB has the aero advantage and always had the aero advantage with Newey on-board. Even with Bottas and Rosberg as teammates to Max, Max is just on another galaxy when it comes to maximizing the upmost potential of car...dry or wet...and he does it on a consistent basis with regards to lap times...he's on occasion a couple of hundredths of his lap times. Can you name another driver that is that consistent off his lap times.....HUNDREDTHS!!!....not tenths.
Yeah I agree its different. Alonso, Sir Lewis Hamilton, has won in cars/rules similar to the era you mentioned 2006.
When you have a car that you can cruise with, its easier to hit similar lap times, IF you don't have a team mate to push you. All you are doing is managing the race at that point. I don't recall Max doing consisitency like that in 2021 during a championship battle. Because you are pushing at that point, not managing your race. But yeah Max has been driving consistent, its impressive.
