I think I read a quote of $50m to make it F1 grade but would remove all the concrete walls and some of the corners gradings would need to change so it would lose some of the charm. Plus Bathurst is a country town 2-3 hour car drive from Sydney, fine for hardcore motorsport locals to get there but would be a pain for the bandwagon fan/tourist. Anyway Liberty F1 doesn't want country town races they want glitz and glamour city locations happy to pay $100+m.
Yeah I couldn't find it on the race recording on F1 TV. It cuts off after they interviewed them at least that was earlier.
Yeah it's about 2-3 mins after they get interviewed. And yeah very annoying when broadcasters cut the feed early or remove parts of the feed.
I think the car as it is now can take on all comers at Imola. Imola—which is all about acceleration, braking and fuel consumption—will probably be even more favourable to the car than Melbourne. The can buy some time and bring upgrades to Miami to eliminate the porpoising on the long straights.
At the end when the were moving Charles’s car. Brundle said “When Mercedes hook their car up it’ll be at the front. I think it’ll be a 3 way fight” So Ferrari are just gonna stand idly by and let Mercedes catch up? Sky people are really distraught not seeing Hamilton at the front.
Notice Stroll pitted twice during the first SC? Once from hard to medium, and a lap later to switch back to hard. Confused Sky commentators, but that filled his pit stop requirement for a run to the end. Stroll pitted again during another SC period. Seemed to help him a bit -- if he wasn't having (and causing) other problems. A number of back markers started on hard. Only worked out for one or two of them.
[formu1a.uno] excerpt from the article Image Unavailable, Please Login Ferrari increased the engine power by 5hp in Melbourne after the positive PU data collected in the first two races. It was a countermeasure against Red Bull's top speed advantage. We can expect a similar approach in Imola. https://www-formu1a-uno.translate.goog/ferrari-ha-alzato-la-potenza-del-motore-in-australia-mentre-a-imola/?_x_tr_sl=it&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc
Just check what Charles has done last year in quali with the car he drove. Don’t want to be too optimistic but I can’t see another driver beating him at Imola in two weeks from now..
funnily enough I thought exactly the same...IMO Liberty wants to make a "show" of it, but IMO taking the wrong direction of this show. The "show" is easy. Lightweight cars with loud engines...not overweight cars covered in "positive vibes" hashtags but hollywood style DRS overtaking.
Russell pitted during a perfectly timed safety car. It was pretty simple. He leapt past Perez and Hamilton
yup...sad truth! The hardcore fans isn't what Liberty is aiming for. Though regarding the concrete, isn't half of Jeddah nice, absorbing concrete?
Unless they are privy to something we can’t see, it seems a case of “hope springs eternal”. I know a ton of people thought Merc were sandbagging or have the answers, but the simplest conclusion is that Ferrari got it right this time.
hard not to notice. I’m guessing Liberty has some data metrics driving that. Remember, they are not as concerned about hardcore race fans…they want to feed the Netflix-ers and the media sound byte culture. That’s where their viewership growth is coming from. so we end up with greener, bloated dolphin cars and ‘engineered racing’ (so to speak)
Italian papers today Gazzetta: [Flying Prince] Charles: "My red car is a beast." It looks like Schumi's. Tuttosport: [Carlo Magno / Charles The Great] Leclerc is phenomenal in Melbourne. Ferrari's best car since the F2004 relative to the competition. Only thing I'd change (I'll save the engine wishes) is the colour to be Rosso Scuderia rather than the matte red
I guess they would need to replace the concrete they have now, I found a list of other things the track currently fails. Maybe that $50m is a really old quote They need to widen the track, change the most iconic corners, build new pit area, modify the chase and stop Kangaroos from entering the track. You guys had your own commentators for awhile so you wouldn't know that they been biased towards Lewis long before Liberty owned F1. James Allen started the biased commentary when it was on ITV/BBC back when Lewis was still racing for McLaren. James Allen was replaced by Croft when they moved to SKY who took up the role of "ask dumb questions/get excited over Lewis" guy. The metrics I see is SKY only gets 1.5m~ viewers per race in the UK today compared to the 3-5m viewers when it was free to air. The people paying to watch sky probably want biased commentary but SKYUK is only 1% of the overall worldwide audience, I don't see why the rest of the English speaking markets need to suffer. More people watch the highlights on Channel 4 (with their own commentators) too. Image Unavailable, Please Login
SKY does not feel overly depressed at all. They know Ferrari got it right and RedBull are challenging. Mercedes having issues is 3 races old now. Certainly they play the 'soon possibly Mercedes might upgrade and challenge' card but also broadcast that Totot has stated Mercedes have about a 20% chance of any title now. He knows its a matter of improving to get a win or 2 not a title. The SKY presentation seemed focus on what is now taking place = Ferrari vs RedBull. As a UK broadcaster with a most British based teams sport they are doing ok in the presentation to not be toooooo Brit focused. Not perfect but in English this is the best broadcast available if one wants to see/hear the presentation of F1.
