Wolff: We discussed in the morning - are we taking a risk for the race win? Yes, we are taking risks. He had a 5 lap older medium and holding position was the right thing to do. In the end, it didn't work out for him. I'd rather win the race then second finish and third. First of all Lewis was ahead. So, he has no problem with the call. You could either pit Lewis and loose track position to Verstappen and leave George out or be screwed. You can be both screwed.

Anyway, good race for Verstappen who was head and shoulders above the opposition.
It seems that nothing can go wrong for him at the moment.
Behind him, the positions were dictated by the way teams seized of opportunities from yellow flags.
Ferrari still uncapable of mounting a solid challenge.
Russell asserting himself at the expense of Hamilton at Mercedes didn't go unnoticed.

When Jenson is in the booth, it is a very difficult broadcast to listen to.

Mercedes made the same mistake they made in Abu Dhabi last year. Its better to be behind on newer, softer tires, than track position. Russel knew it.

Max and Red Bull just unstoppable at the moment.

TD39 completely ****ed Ferrari. Send Toto a thank you note for that one. Agree the best consolation for that is no win for Merc at alll.

Ferrari have single lap pace on the right track but once Merc gets temp in their tyres it's game over for Ferrari. Even Singapore will be hard for us.

Good race by HAM but the takeaway is that his horseshoe is slipping out because if it was fully engaged—as in the past—he’d have won this.

Hopefully it’s also engine management—until expected fixes—but the feeling is the TD F’d over good.

When the talk of flexi-floor started, I would have bet it was Ferrari.

Kudos to Di Resta for calling out Rosberg's nonsense regarding LH.

LH wouldn't have passed Max irrespective. They went for a win. LH would have complained irrespective.

    Russell "out-strategized" Lewis's strategist.

The kid can multi-task....and this isn't the 1st time Russell has done this.

He's better than the LH groupies. So is Di Resta.

Absolutely, and it just shows what a coward he is. Shaking his head after the race - got beat fair and square.

Would Ferrari ever win another championship? I think the chance is small.

Now with the budget cap, I just don't think Ferrari is as efficient as other top teams getting the talented people at the right place.

In the Schuim time, with almost unlimited tests Ferrari had nice advantage with Fiorano, now that advantage is also reduced.

    What do you guys think?

Well, Russell is Mercedes future, and should be seen in that light.

They will put their weight behind him more than on Lewis now.

I can’t say I’m full of confidence they can create another great car and sustain the effort for a whole year.

I thought they started this year off really well but are now going backwards. The worst thing is seeing that Binotto not understanding—unless he’s protecting the team—they have a strategy problem.

Personally, I always liked George Russell, and saw him as a successor to Hamilton at Mercedes.

Some people have called him a whiner because of his radio messages during races; the same objection they made about Hamilton.

Also, he irritates some because he is too "PR like" during interviews. The guy has been waiting 3 years for a good drive.

He is certainly not going to throw all that away by criticising his team, just to please the Mercedes haters on FChat .
