Leclerc could put together really quick qualifying laps. But the tires only need to run a few laps for that. They couldn't maintain that pace in the race.
Exactly the same thing said Hamilton after Monza race in 2021. Spoiler: reveal (click) And it's hard to not agree with that. If not the halo guard on Hamilton car, it would be tragic end of Hamilton's career. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Riiiiiiiiigggggghhhhht. Like Max calculated in his head in nanoseconds the speed, weight of his car, trajectory and the exact moment his tire would catch Lewis's tire to algorithmically launch him at that exact same spot. Max is a genius....
Both were racing incidents, IMO. We don't need to revisit that over and over; it has been dealt with.
One person I haven't seen mentioned amid all the confusion, and the celebrations is the man behind Max Verstappen and Red Bull success. Winning the driver and the constructors titles is a massive tribute to Dieter Mateschitz who I understand is having health problems at the moment. I hope he will hear about the success his team has achieved thanks to him and his vision to buy an ailing team to transform it into a world championship contender.
CONSISTENCY IS RIGHT! Watch him hit the chicane in p3 and Qual, exactly the same curb amounts every time, wow
Regarding VET as driver of the day, I'd say he didn't just spin off the track on the first lap, it looked like he was hit by Alonso. Congrats Max on being world champion. I was confused during the race as the commentators were contradicting themselves on full or half points for a half distance race. I also read afterwards that Christian Horner stated that they were confused also, believing that you don't get full points unless it's more than 75% of a race, so I guess we all learned something there, and that they will likely tweak that rule. Ocon vs. Hamilton was fun, but I'm not sure it was worth watching that for so long. The one time HAM got a bit alongside into 130R was pretty fun to watch, but the announcer hyping it up for the next 3 laps when it wasn't that close was a bit much. I guess there is an onboard of Stroll moving up about 8 spots on the first lap, he does have a habit of making up ground on the first lap, like him or not! Haas tire strategy, maybe worth a risk, BUT holy smokes, Mick was already in the points when they gave him the risky strategy! And that sure didn't work. On the F1 website there is a very impressive video of Gasly getting interviewed after the race, and he asks why we have tractors on the same wet track after Jules Bianchi's accident. The question of the day. Ferrari: well, ok, let's be positive if we can, we're moving the right direction, but have to make up ground to RB next year. I'd have to guess MB gets rid of the no sidepod look and comes back strong, so let's lose the porpoising and figure out the tire deg.
Though to say at this point. I know Ferrari went on a bizarre set up, they saw on Friday that sunday would be race affected but went for a dry set up anyways? Ferrari in part blamed Charles for pushing too hard early on. Without Sainz there to compare how his tyres faired, we don't have much to go on.
No. You cannot forget that "idiots" are able to do unbelievable things in a blink of an eye, which even geniuses' minds couldn't calculate in their whole life.
Similar story every race, wet or dry - in Singapore also Sainz had no tyres and Hamilton quickly caught up. Leclerc's tyres were gone a few laps before chequered flag so he dropped drastically behind Perez. Ferrari car only seems good, and tyre wear or how they set up everything for heating the tyre, is "baaad". How do you use the tyres? Binotto: - We don't know. (Crap)
It's a problem that became significantly worse since the TD. The car still switches it's tyres on for quali, but the tyre mangement they did have (which was pretty good, not far behind RB) is now in tatters.
