In my opinion “podiums” is one of the most over-used, least meaningful statistics. Winning is everything. Second and third are just points accumulators. How many drivers are in Winner’s Circle at Indy? It’s the winner’s circle, not the winner and first and second losers circle.
I think Christian must be secretly or not so secretly enjoying the joke of a strategy concept from McLaren given all of Zak's **** talk on RB. What an embarrassment. The past few weeks they've just looked foolish with really bad calls... yesterday, however, they ended up screwing both drivers and looking like complete idiots trying to handle it. That was embarrassing. Zak ought to pay attention to his own team. Also they better figure something out once their wing gets banned.
It's a statistic way to evaluate drivers' careers. First you have WDCs, then GP Winners, followed by Podiums, then Point scorers, etc ... Also Poles and Fast laps can give an idea. Note than in many sports, the first 3 finishers are celebrated, and not only the winners.
Yes I’m aware of all of that. The “hierarchy of statistics” is b.s. to me. The “podium” is a copy of Olympic medal ceremonies. First and second losers included.
A podium finish is an achievement that should be celebrated. There are 17 other drivers in the race who would gladly trade places.
The real issue is that Lando gave up the position 2 laps from the end. He should have yielded immediately with over 20 laps to go, and then raced for the win. He didn’t. His speed of thought is too slow. He will have to learn to be more ruthless if he wants to be WDC.
Agreed 100%. Lando during the whole "mishigash" even said "Why doesn't he catch up and pass me!" on team radio.
would team orders have allowed him to race Oscar at the end? if so, then why give them at all? agree he needs to be more ruthless.
I agree. For me podium finishers are not "losers" at all, but worthy participants. The pejorative expression "losers" has been used in the last decades to demean the achievement of finishing behind the winner. It seems that in F1, like in life in general, opinions have become extreme.
max needs sleep, less sim. good stuff here but russell no where near as composed as Sainz and Piastri
Don't forget that English is Oscar's mother tongue, so it's easier for him to express himself. Kimi could hardly speak English when he arrived in F1 at Sauber, so he tried to minimise his verbal interventions. I think Kimi resented the attention and being questionned, so he adopted the tactic of being evasive to fob off the journalists. In the opposite, his compatriot Kovalainen (remember him ?) was a motormouth who couldn't stop talking !
There was no chance of Hamilton undercutting, though, they had over a 5 second window - so they could have easily pitted Piastri first and then Lando and still Lewis would have been nowhere near the undercut. It was just stupid strategy from Mclaren. I could see if it was going to be close to Lewis and he was pulling 1-2 seconds a lap, but it was neither close nor did he have that much pace advantage.
I think the real issue is that Lando can't hold his pole position. I think he's lost his four by lap two of the race. So maybe he just needs to be able to start the race like a winner than he'll be one. I think he's great, but I think he's entirely too impatient and it costs him. He's made bad decisions ... going all the way back to refusing to switch to rain tires and losing the race on the last lap. He's just too quick to make bad decisions it seems.
Max is a huge talent but non educated -other than for driving and only driving -by a father known for bar fights, assaulting his own father etc...European white trash.
