I think Ricard is far from an ideal track, but France should have a GP. Liberty’s obsession with the U.S. and the M.E. will be to the detriment of the sport, in my opinion.
We will see passing today yet they keep Monaco which is lacking in racing in a basic sense and was not even missed when skipped. Spa to be dropped next?? Liberty needs to wake up
The more F1 focuses on US/ME, abandoning the core tracks in the EU for daft city circuits, the wider the door is left open for an alternative championship....
Current Concorde agreement doesn't expire till end of 2025. No way Ferrari could organise a Championship by 2026 when they can't even get their race strategies or engines right
Given the values the teams carry now, a new alternative would need to guarantee those to even appear to be viable. Years would be needed to arrange a series. Liberty appears to have the teams backing overall currently.
Sadly it's not as easy as it sounds...I think about it quite often. Really, really hard to convince several entities to spend millions on a series which at the moment of conception has zero viewers. IF it's doable my guess would be is to start with spec tub, floor suspension and an exciting engine. Front and rear wings to have a max load of X and X amount of planes. All to keep cost down and then at a later date (if there are enough viewers) decide freer concepts.
They have attempted to split a few times over the years. https://the-race.com/formula-1/the-f1-wars-that-threatened-a-super-league-style-breakaway/
