Well at least two things come to mind: If the tires didn't suffer any degradation, they could have kept Piastri going 10 more laps or so like Antonelli, and then try softs; if not softs, at least make RB think twice. Then when Norris was to come in, do the "don't do what RB does", if they come in, Norris stays out, if they stay out, then come in, but surely not come in at the same time as Verstappen. What is the chance of overtaking him in the pits? Couldn't Norris do a "Schumacher-like" two or three quali laps so that to get an advantage there?
When you have races that are this boring you have to ask "What is wrong with F1?" The 2026 formula is not the solution.
Out of the 4 I can see Max either staying for at least 2026, otherwise AM for a beyond bonkers offer or Ferrari to replace the hat salesman. Either way...by summer-break we'll know A LOT more.
Not a real good look for Russell if the first year rookie is immediately a threat to the veteran driver
Man..what a boring race. And I thought the last one was bad. I guess the teams are happy, no expensive mishaps today, Ferrari off the pace, Max driving the piss outa that RB, McLaren steady except for when Lando got bored and decided to do some landscaping. I hope next race has SOMETHING to get excited about..
Breaking two of Verstappen records may not sound like much, but the more you think about, they are quite meaningful. Good for him.
Stop talking and improve the Ferrari! —Faced with the uphill task of trying to close down McLaren, Red Bull and, perhaps, Mercedes, Vasseur said Ferrari’s focus needs to remain on its own shortcomings at this point, rather than concentrating on its rivals. “I didn’t spend the winter to have expectations from race one that we would be there or there, but just going to Australia to race and to try to get the best from what we have,” he said. “We had exactly the same approach last year – we are able to come back after the first couple of races. We were six-tenths off on average, and we were able to come back during the season. “We need to keep the same approach. The gap doesn’t matter, nor the results of today. We need to try to do a better job next week, to improve the potential and also the extraction of the potential of the car in its operation and potential. “We have to improve everywhere. At least we took a step forward compared to last Sunday, at least on the operation, and we have to start from there. But it’s not the ideal start of the season, for sure, but it’s still a long one to go.”—
Cosmetician Fred puts some cheap lipstick on the pig; a far cry from John Surtees who once…or more….said, “I never started a race I didn’t intend to win.” That’s the true Ferrari attitude and probably why Enzo admired him so much.
Oscar has been shut down by the team twice this season, he is going to get angry and we may get friction at mcC
…and that is precisely why they fail. Ironic that we used to make fun of Lamborghini for being shallow posuers with no racing heritage.
I take option 3. Max would probably like to be re-united with Adrian Newey, who was behind his 4 titles. Aston Martin will always find investors. The problem is that Stroll SR tried to do too much too quick, IMO.
They’re being clever enough to sell whatever junk they have to sell to fund the company is no knock against them. Whether we like it or not, purist auto makers don’t make it just selling drivers cars. Lotus, McLaren, etc etc over the years constantly struggling. It’s the crappy reality. I’m not a Lewis fan, I don’t like ‘Ferrari Style’ or $500 T-shirts. Here’s an anecdote. I was speaking with a guy in his thirties about real estate and I noticed he had a watch with a Ferrari logo and I started talking what a value a 360 is. He looked at me and said “it’s a sports car…?” Yes, it’s unbelievable but true. If they need to make money of these types to fund making more cars than so be it.
Really? Never. Maybe Max can perform a "Schumacher-like" strategy, or LH44 at his peak; but Norris will never be able to do it.
I continue to wonder why folks seem to think LH was hired with an honest expectation of championship(s). The guy has a lot of racing miles on him, that is not his purpose. And let's remember the cars and the team are not top level (though I am liking Fred). Ferrari is about continuing to build brand equity. Now they have an international mega star to smile in front of what the brand or partners like Mille are looking to pitch, big win for Ferrari.
