That makes it sound so long. Reality is that the entire field was out of F1 cars for many months. If you don't count the Barca testing, they have been out of F1 cars almost as long. To put it differently: Hulk has only missed 3 races so far. Not exactly a driver coming back from retirement. They called him on his way to the Nuerburgring where he had another racing engagement. It's not like he has been sitting on the TV couch eating nothing but french fries (that's my job). The thing I'd be more concerned than his reflexes etc is the state of his fitness, particularly his neck muscles. Not sure he was keeping those fit all the time. Since his current car is a copy of a 2019 car, he shouldn't see much differences to his former Renault. Except that this one actually performs.
The maximisation of sponsors logos on helmets mean that none worn by the current drivers have the iconic quality of those from the past. As for Lando's, I think it's fun and fresh. Two things badly needed by F1 these days !
This great opportunity which could resurrect Hulk's career thanks to another driver being unable to race reminds me of another. Bertrand Gachot a couple of decades ago having a road rage incident in London, spraying pepper spray into a taxi driver's face...and ending up in jail...the opportunity for a young German chappie with pointy chin to have his first GP with Jordan... what's his name again?
Slight difference in talent between Hulk and that guy. But you get bonus points for remembering that story.
So how was Ferrari looking, I missed today's practice sessions. Is it going to be a hard fight to even get to points again?
Well. Leclerc looks solid in his car. Seb not so much. Too early to tell regarding fuel loads and engine modes and tire compounds. Qualifying should tell us way more. I always wait till qualifying to get a true test. I don't ever read too much on practices.
Car preparation at Ferrari can be appalling at times for a leading team. This time it was a problem with an intercooler leaking on Vettel's car, but later they said there was nothing wrong with the component itself. This sounds to me like an installation issue. as cars get dismantled and reassembled all the time, Good mechanics take good care when connecting coolant hoses, hydraulics pipes, or fuel lines. It's not the first time that happens at Ferrari. Remember Schumacher's crash at Silverstone years ago when he hit the bank at Copse ? The rumour was that the bleeding nipples on his rear brake calipers hadn't been tightened up properly!!!
Never get tired of beating the weak and the fallen? I don´t know if it was this year or last, but during preseason testing Bottas lost a session because a bad installation of the battery. Probably a small problem but in these cars they have to remove everything to get there. **** happens. And then there was that year when the McLaren was incredibly good at the first test because someone had installed the suspension upside down by mistake. Unfortunately for them the car was illegal that way. And yet, we don´t know what the problem with Vettel really was. Maybe they were trying another way of cheating.
Was a difficult position for Perez. Mother in hospital but appears in pictures he was not as careful as he says. Team supports him publicly and state's they could not prevent the trip but did use the word 'hindsight' more than once............So..................
