Ouch... Wrong place at the wrong time... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/search%5Eformula%201#39172400
HRT Radio man that is not normally involved in pitstops was messing with the cable for the radio or something related and the rest is in the video. Last I saw he was still in the hospital with a concussion and a broken rib or two.
Its Marcel (the radio guy!)... A friend of mine was 10 foot away and said it looked worse than it was... they picked him up and walked him into the garage before the ambulance closed the pitlane to collect him,he was in pain but basically ok and he is home in Germany recovering now with the damage mentioned above!. HRT were fined $20000 for it... thats the budget for the rest of the year gone then!
Many years ago I was helping to crew a formula ford event at Willow Springs and the exact same thing happenened to me. The starter died and we push started the car to get it to the track. I stupidly was pushing the roll bar from the side of the car. The engine lit up and the driver took off. I went right over the rear wheel. Luckly, I was not hurt but it was not a pleasant experience. That was the end of my pit crewing days....
Hate seeing this. I was watching the Indy car race live when Michael Andretti did this on accident; I almost threw up as I thought no way in hell was the crewman alive. Luckily his helmet was not strapped on so it twisted around his head. Instead of the alternative: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh6ndqIIKD8
