I am glad I went to sleep. Waiting 2hr 45 minutes after the start time was enough for me. If I stayed up for the "race", I would have pulled an Elvis and shot my tv.

There may have been no commercial pressure to start the GP, but there were plenty of financial reasons to get the $25M from the track staging the event.
    No race, no $25M.

I think they would have raced at any other track. I think being that it's Spa with high speed and past events, they chickened out.

I was working today and missed the "race." This is worse than the 2005 USGP. I never thought I'd say that and thought that was rock bottom. Seeing Lewis all alone on the grid at start this season was ridiculous, but this is crazy. F1 scared of rain? lol

    FIA logic:

Sprint qualifying - “THIS IS NOT A RACE”

Two laps behind the safety car - “NOW, THAT’S WHAT YOU CALL A RACE”

Yep. This was worse. All those fans sitting in the cold, wet rain? And they pull this crap? When the FIA announced that they would ''suspend the ending of the race'' and people where trying to decypher whatever that meant, a friend of mine who is at the track said there was no way any racing would happen as the rain continued to fall with the same intensity.

At least for Indy people got their money back. With this? I really doubt it. F1 claims there's been a race.

Really just farcical all the way through. They knew it was going to rain quite heavily. If it's this predictable, a more elegant solution should be found. Announce a race start at a different hour the day before or something, to give fans with tickets the time to react. Or let drivers decide without influence of the team (quite how I don't know).

Absolutely. This whole thing was a mega **** show. F1 looked like a ****ing clown sport. Disgusted.

F1 set for talks over rule changes after Belgian GP "farce"

Formula 1 chiefs are to seek talks with teams and the FIA to discuss changes to the rules in the wake of the Belgian Grand Prix "farce", Autosport has learned.

While the FIA and F1 race director Michael Masi have been commended for not pushing on and allowing racing in the dangerous wet conditions at Spa on Sunday, there is unease about the way a result was declared and points handed out after just three laps behind a safety car.

World champion Lewis Hamilton was one of many drivers to express his unhappiness about the situation, suggesting F1 had put money before fans.

“Today was a farce and the only people to lose out are the fans who have paid good money to watch us race,” he posted on Instagram.

It is understood that F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali concurs that the way the Belgian GP result was declared was not ideal, and he is eager for discussions with the sport’s stakeholders to consider potential rule changes.

Any shift in the regulations to ensure there is no repeat of what happened in Belgium – either by ensuring that results are only called after proper racing laps, or that there is a procedure for running races at a later date – would need approval by F1, the FIA and teams.

However, it is unlikely that anyone would oppose any changes that would prevent a repeat of events in Belgium.

Moves to find a better way of dealing with such a situation have been backed by McLaren CEO Zak Brown, who said that it was not “right” that the few laps behind the safety car were declared a race.

Posting in a video on Twitter, Brown said: “The regulations state that after you do a few laps it can be called a race. I think that needs to be reviewed.

“I don’t think there is anyone who would argue the weather was safe to race in, but we need a better solution as a sport when that type of situation happens. The outcome should not be a race after three laps behind a safety car.

“That is what the rules say but that now needs to be reviewed by all of us, to learn from today and realise that we if are given that type of situation, what would we do differently to make sure the outcome is everyone gets their race in – whether that is the following day or it comes back.

“I don’t think anyone would say it felt right calling that a race, so we will work on this and hope that something like this doesn’t happen again.”

F1 race director Masi suggested that the FIA and teams would get together and review the regulations in light of what happened in Belgium.

“I think after this weekend, and at our next meeting for next year, we'll look at a whole lot of things that you know we can all look at, to see what everyone wants,” he said.

“As you're all well aware we're at one of those points that the FIA works with all 10 teams and F1 to develop the regulations. And so we'll go through all of the various scenarios and see what everyone thinks.”

Yup it would. Only someone completely paranoid would think otherwise.

I'm glad they didn't race, I would have hated to have seen another person get killed or seriously injured as a result; but to run 2 laps behind the SC and declare a race and result is a definitely a farce.

Yesterday, the FIA and Masi were caught with their pants down at Spa because there was no contingency plan to deal with adverse circumstances

There was no Plan B in action in a case of force majeure; instead, we had hesitation, dithering, delays, and misinformation.

A complete lack of management was exposed, that gave no credit to the almighty FIA.

The FIA rules, usually so precise, provided no guidelines, forcing Masi to improvise a half-baked solution that suited nobody and made a mockery of the sport.

Yesterday there were no winners,: Verstappen, the teams and the drivers, the spectators and TV viewers, all the F1 followers were cheated.

The infamy was to call the farce we all witnessed a "race "and attributing points for it; that was an absolute disgrace.

Nobody can really feel good about that, even if the championship pendulum came back in Red Bull's favour.to spice the rest of the year.

Yes, the FIA should prioritise a review of their regulations, and align on the protocol other public events adopt in similar circumstances.

Cancellations at short notice exist and are handled with some dignity in sport, show business, etc ... without the public feeling it had been duped.
