Hahaha excellent find, that guy hacking away at the first front wheel had me laughing.. I have to say I do miss those engine notes tho...
Here is an old F1 pit stop.....starts at 1:20. Check out the refueling! Holy cow! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ6AYdTBtrk
I guess you're not an old enough geezer to know otherwise. In 1950, the Indy 500 was the third of seven rounds on the F1 World Driver's Championship calender. Most F1 races, only did pit stops - if something was wrong with the car. The other 6 F1 points in 1950 races had shorter race distances than the 500.
I can remember when the Indy 500 counted for WDC points, but it was pretty meaningless as there were almost no drivers who competed in both, and the cars were only superficially similar. Given that, to call the 1950 Indy 500 an F1 race is a big stretch.
I was joking, I know from past discussions that you know this. The point about race distance though, means that F1 races with F1 cars involved didn't have pit stops. Rather than pumping in gasoline, F1 would just poor from an open neck fuel can, much much slower way to fill a tank. Pit stops were for repairs, tires punctures, etc.
