formula e to get on its way in September! hmmm reminds me of the failed A1. I wonder what kind of success it will have! I read some where Leonardo dicaprio put his hand up along with former f1 drivers. interesting times
The way things are going, Formula E may well become Formula One in future!! You heard it here first ....
Sorry, but I strongly disagree with your dismissive post. How do you know no one will watch? Many people are interested in alternative energy, and Formula E spearhead the electric car technology. There are many plusses; - it's not noisy, so may attract more racing in town, or preserve some tracks near housing. - it's an alternative energy attracting new sources of sponsorship - it's green and ecologic, and will attract that audience. - it's environmentally friendly. No carbon emission. - it's a formidable bench test for electric cars technology. - it will bring nearer a solution to electricity storage. I hope Formula E becomes a credible aspect of motor racing in the future and proves the critics wrong. Already, the 2014 F1 cars used 20% of electric energy as source of power.
How many people watch F1 on mute? Or will only turn commentary on? Yes. The mentalists who think the car was created by Satan. Sounds like an ignorant statement, but it's the reality. 95% of the people supporting the E movement have no interest in driving and racing. They do not understand that hydrogen is simply the future, not batteries, an ancient technology that hasn't really advanced much, because there simply isn't that much we can do to it anymore. Granted, more racing in town. Not the most exiting place to race though. Look at Monaco. Only reason it's really on there is simply because of it being Monaco. If it wasn't the most glamorous GP of the year it'd have been scrapped in the early 70s. Singapore. Boring. Valencia. Boring. Yes, but, with my opinion ofcourse, not many people out there to watch it, they won't get a return on their investment, so that'll quickly fade. Eco mentals are not interested in cars, and even less interested in racing. I see this adding nothing to potential excitement. AFAIK teams are not developing cars. They get them (2 per driver, since the cars won't last a full race), race them and recharge. A season of F1 will do far more good to electric technology. Hopefully soon they'll realize it's a ridiculous fad and focus on Hydrogen. As above. I doubt it. Race fans (i.e. the people that actually watch/go to races) have been very critical about Diesel powered Le Mans cars, simply because they provide not enough noise. Just a woosh, gearbox and tire noise. I'm 100% convinced, if it sounded like a 412t1 for instance, no one would be upset that they've won Le Mans x amount of times on the trot. They are now because of the lack of noise. So many are cheering for the Toyota's, however. And they have Petrol engines.
I alerted the mods to move this thread into other racing. Not even sure it qualifies as racing but it certainly has nothing to do with F1. Total and utter bull****.
That's the bit I don't like; 2 cars per driver with a change mid-race. I cannot understand why they don't have two shorter races with recharge (or battery change) in between. That format works well in many different types or racing and allows to watch 2 starts.
Formula E, not so noisy alternative to F1. You'll be able to hold a conversation or cheer on your favorite driver. I'm not sure I like that. I'd rather be immersed in the experience.
I dunno...people love the whisper-quiet Audi and Toyota P1 cars. I think FE might be able to put on a good show without 100db of noise. plus almost everyone I know in racing is almost totally deaf anyway lots of big names associated from sponsors to teams and drivers. lots of $$$. decent schedule. I do think they are making a mistake using a spec car. it should be a platform for car (and/or electronics and battery) manufacturers to put on an R&D showcase. we shall see if it becomes relevant, or just a gimmick.
yes. BUT.....this series *should* be about technical innovation. otherwise it's just another junior formula series with a gimmick.
Yes, I am a little bit disappointed by that. Unlike bike racing, car racing hasn't managed to attract many constructors in its e-formula. It's true that without competition between engineers, the electric car concept will stall very quickly. Let's hope the rule makers will open the door to more manufacturers.
