    From wikipedia, as of mid-March:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One_2009_(video_game)
Formula One 2009 is an upcoming video game based on the motor racing series with the same name and the upcoming 2009 Formula One season. It will be released in October 2009 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows platforms. The game was confirmed by Codemasters on May 9, 2008. The game engine is based on the Ego Engine that Codemasters used on both the Colin McRae: Dirt and Race Driver: GRID games.

The Dirt and GRID games are two of the best multiplatform racing games I've played in recent years.

Neither IGN nor the Codemasters website has any confirmed info, but I hope they can keep their promise of release of this game.... I was disappointed by the outdated F1 game on PS3, and no new games with the frequently changing rosters!

I completely agree but who knows what type of cars will be available when GT5 is released, some classic F1 cars would be excellent.

You do realize that if that happened, we would not have a Formula 1 game until 2015 or so, right?

    True dat.

I read an interview with the designer of GT5 and I felt like yelling and screaming at the guy and grab him by the neck and give him a good shaking and a reality check: These guys have totally lost the framework of their market and consumers. We don't need 100 different Japanese cars modelled to the last screw. We need the 20 best tracks in the world and the 20 best supercars. That's all. Forget the rest.

I'll start the list of the top 20 tracks and supercars:

    1) Nuerburgring
    2) Laguna Seca
    3) Bathurst
    ...

    1) Caparo T1
    2) FXX
    3) McLaren F1
    ...

But you have to keep in mind that supercars are not what every youngster is craving for. There's a wonderful world out there besides your top 20 hypercars... The favorite car of the GT series maker is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommy Mäkkinen Edition (phew!) and I believe he could rock any car he wanted too... But I hope they feauture the four super Ferraris, along with the FXX-models (Enzo/599)! That would be awesome...

I don't like the involvement of tuner-cars. Or the concept cars.

I think GT5 is about the best thing going. if it takes them 5 years to do a new game ... fine by me. I would rather have it the way they are doing it rather than like the folks who did the Ferrari challenge.. awful...

for me I would love for them to have more historical signifignat cars ... and Tracks.

    Nurburgring
    Monza with the banking
    Spa, + old Spa
    Targa florio would be great
    Watkins Glenn
    Clermont Ferrand

    As for cars:
    250 GTO and SWB
    Testa rossa
    330 P3 -4
    312 PB
    512 S & M
    Porsche 917
    Porsche 956
    Ferrari 333
    Ferrari Daytona & race car
    512 BBM
    308
    Dino SP
    206 Dino 246 Dino
Mclaren F-1 regular tail version & Lemans Version
    Chevron B3
Mclaren CAN AM Cars - any
I could go on for ever on the cars that would be great to have in the game...

I'm guessing there will be at least 47 variations of the GT-R in the release of GT5.

As an XBOX guy I have to put a word in for Forza. Yes the damage model is watered down, but at least they put the effort in to making one. Instead GT takes 5 years to make a game where I can see the interior of my Nissan!! Whoopdee fricken doo. Don't get me wrong the GT series really started the realistic racing game for car enthusiasts, but they really do have their priorities mixed up. I just hope it lives up to the hype for the sake of people who bought the PS3 purely to play it.

I love Forza too, and agree that the damage model is not real at all, for a game that claims to be real.

I realize that they kept the damage down on purpose... but look at Grid and Race Pro... both excellent racing games... at least Grid has some crazy damage modeling in it. I haven't played Race Pro yet, but Gamespot's review says:
"... but the one area where the modeling falls down is damage. A car can be ruined with a single crash on the highest difficulty level, but this doesn't have a significant visual impact on the car itself. Bumpers fall off, but there's none of the broken-windshield, hanging-together-by-a-thread feeling of the car models that we've seen in other racers. "

So I guess it does have some damage in it.. better than Forza? :)

Anyway, I hope F1 2009 has a good balance between realism and fun! :D
