Warning: Some Graphic description to follow

The wife and I came up on it shortly after it happened and it was unreal. It was at the same intersection that I say the guy die on the motorcycle last year... right by Burger King on Troutman in Fort Collins. I swear that intersection is cursed.

Story is he was fleeing from the cops Northbound on College and his speed was estimated at 130-150mph. There was a car (Burger King employee is what was told at the scene) crossing College with a green light from West to East and she was moving at a pretty good pace (not necessarily speeding but already at speed like she didn't just leave the light or something) who saw the car (edited in case there were those who know them that haven't been notified) coming and turned the wheel away from the car towards the North. She was hit in the rear and spun off of College and came to a rest on Troutman in close proximity to Burger King. Luckily she was unharmed for the most part and walked away. I'm sure she's sore today but sure beats what a half second later through the intersection would have resulted in. The other car continued out of control and hit a tree sideways sheering it in half and taking the tree up at the root. The rear came to a rest on College where one of the occupants died (instantly) and the jaws of life were required to extricate the body several hours later. She was the front passenger who was thrown into the back seat upon impact. The passenger in the rear seat was thrown free of the vehicle and was also killed. Several legs were found out in the street with one being all the way over in the Carino's parking lot for those who aren't familiar with Fort Collins... opposite corner. The driver was a male in his late 20's and was pulled from the front half of the vehicle by several high school students who also went into nearby Taco Bell and Burger King to get fire extinguishers to put out the fire from the front half of the car. The driver sustained severe head wounds and was revived at the scene by one of the high school boys that knew CPR. The EMTs then took him to the hospital and his current condition is unknown but reported as still alive. The kid that revived him wasn't sure how the guy was even still alive and based on the head trauma he described neither do I.

I took camera pictures with my phone of the car and accident scene as it was an unbelievable sight to see a 4dr sedan cut in half and both halves lay hundreds of feet away from each other. It was truly unreal and those that say the aftermath (myself and my wife included) couldn't believe what they were looking at.

I hope nobody here knew the people and if so.. I'm sorry for your loss and to those that knew these people. It was a VERY selfish thing for the driver to not only take his own life into his hands but that of the two passengers in the vehicle who ultimately lose theirs. So, if you ever find yourself in this situation... pull over. whatever your running from can't be worse than the possible outcome.

My thoughts are with those who got phone calls early this morning and throughout the day.

9News has some video and pics but the story is pretty shaky at best and based on hearsay I'm sure as I know the facts to be different than what they are reporting. Here's the link:

Wow, that is horrible! From the pictures on 9 News it looks like the car is two smashed pop cans. Hope the remaining people get better and hope the families heal soon as possible.

This is a very tragic event ... although I hate to ask, but you stated 2 passengers in the WRX, they are only claiming 1 passenger (died) and the driver. ?

There were many details that the news has incorrect. They also say he hit two cars and there was just the one. As for the driver ?? Still no reports but last I heard he was still alive when they took him from the scene but the kid that revived him said he didn't think he would live and was surprised he was able to get a pulse at all based on his condition.

    I have to agree roland...

I never thought to run from the police, nor wanted too..

I dont want to go down the road of why people run, as it will create a thread that I believe will get out of controll.

I do say that the amount of deaths from this is insane...

Kids don't want to be told or shown anything in a "heavy handed" manner. The instant response is rejection. "LOOK WHAT HAPPENED RECENTLY", shown to that group of promising youngsters, will get their attention and will hopefully, cause them to hear a louder "inner voice", especially at the 12:30 AM (12:30 AM - what, am I drunk?) conclusion of the party that they will surely be at. They hopefully, will say to the driver - - "SLOW DOWN!! ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL US???"

    Be safe, Hank

I talked with The man from Laramie tonight (who was the star of that TV show, Clint Walker?) and he told me that he thinks he even recognized the silver Subaru that was destroyed here in Ft Collins. He'd seen one just like it speeding around Laramie this summer at 70-90mph. he says that, just like the general population, most Wyo Tech kids are cool. But they're all 20-something motorheads in a competitive automotive training school that costs tens of thousands of dollars a year to attend. And I guess they cause something like 80% of the traffic tickets in Laramie, according to the cops.

And then there's a single-digit minority of them who are dangerous and deadly. And about once a year these idiots T-bone each other in their mad dashes out of the school's campuses and as they race around Laramie. Apparently, there was a T-bone death, each of the past two years, just from the school's parking lots onto US 287. When I go up there for CSU football games, I definately don't feel safe on Laramie streets...and not just because I'm a Greenie Weenie from Colorado who's likely to have his wipers bent or paint keyed during the game (both have happened to me. And no, I don't drive my Ferrari up there).

Apparently, a month ago or so, another Tech student was killed on an ATV, racing around while tresspassing on someone's ranch outside Laramie: Speeding, lost control, killed instantly.

It's an annual event: A Wyo Tech student gets killed speeding. I remember reading about a couple of them who lead state troopers into Colorado after stealing quarters from Coke machines and ran a Walden-based Sheriff off the road for a felony. From what I understand, the Laramie newspaper hushes it up (since Wyo Tech is a big advertiser and employer in Laramie). Then the school recruiters go out and get more kids from all over America to pay Harvard tuition to freeze their asses in small town, nothing-to-do Wyoming...by lying to them that they can race their trucks around the hills and their ricers around Wyoming highways.

And when they find they CAN'T do that...then big city Ft Collins and the front range is just an hour away on the Highway of Death (US 287) where weekly accidents and monthly fatalities are common.

Jim, in the service department at FoD, can tell you about Wyo tech. As a good graduate, Jim's as critical of the idiots who abuse the school's otherwise excellent reputation as anyone.

Sure, it's sad that these idiot kids died. But, let's be honest. Drunk or not, they were doing over 100mph into Ft Collins on one of Colorado's busiest highways and city streets. And their deaths culled the idiot population and Thank God that nobody else was killed by their arrogant, thoughtless disregard for the lives and welfare of other people. Whenever I see a Laramie (Wyoming 5) plate on College Ave, I am wary and on-guard-- whether there's a CSU/Wyo game on or not. I've seen too many of those clowns from up north racing around town to not pay attention to them. They always seem to incite a local punk to race them to the next stop light. To me, it's a dangerous cultural artifact of the CSU/Wyo rivalry, known as "the border war". That's why I'm writing this: Watch out for Wyoming-5 plates!
