FOTA: All existing teams have entered for 2010 Friday 29th May 2009 - PlanetF1.com Ferrari's threat to quit Formula One would appear to be over after they on Friday joined eight other current teams in submitting a block conditional entry to compete in next year's world championship. McLaren, BMW Sauber, Toyota, Renault, Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso and Brawn GP have all confirmed their intention to compete in 2010, seemingly bringing an end to the recent civil war with the FIA over the voluntary budget cap. However, despite compromises on both sides in recent negotiations, the nine teams have made it clear there are stipulations attached to their entry. A statement on behalf of the Formula One Teams' Association read: "FOTA confirms all its members' long-term commitment to be involved in the FIA Formula One World Championship and has unanimously agreed further and significant actions to substantially reduce the costs of competing in the championship in the next three years, creating a mechanism that will preserve the technological competition and the sporting challenge and, at the same time, facilitate the entry in the F1 Championship for new teams. "These measures are in line with what has already been decided in 2009 within FOTA, achieving important saving on engines and gearboxes. "All FOTA teams have entered the 2010 championship on the basis that: "1) The Concorde Agreement is signed by all parties before 12th June 2009, after which all FOTA teams will commit to competing in Formula One until 2012. "The renewal of the Concorde Agreement will provide security for the future of the sport by binding all parties in a formal relationship that will ensure stability via sound governance. "2) The basis of the 2010 regulations will be the current 2009 regulations, amended in accordance with proposals that FOTA has submitted to the FIA. "All FOTA teams' entries for the 2010 FIA Formula One world championship have been submitted today on the understanding that (a) all FOTA teams will be permitted to compete during the 2010 Formula One season on an identical regulatory basis and (b) that they may only be accepted as a whole. "All FOTA teams now look forward with optimism to collaborating proactively and productively with the FIA, with a view to establishing a solid foundation on which the future of a healthy and successful Formula One can be built, providing lasting stability and sound governance."
The devil is of course in the details. "Subject to the Concorde being signed". In other words only if terms are reached with FOM. "Sound governance" Appears twice. In other words Max. McLaren's answer to the spending cap? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hmm, makes me want to go home and assemble the Massa/Kimi Lego set I just got... It will be interesting to see if this all happens again next year.
There will be an agreement with FOM, there will be an agreement with the FIA, there will be budget caps, there will be an Aston Martin (ok, its actually Prodrive) on the grid, there will be a Lola on the grid, there will be an American team on the grid (and the return of the USGP), and we all live happily ever after. Somehow this all seems too good to be true.
David, I love the sun, but unfortunetely my skin is stil healing from the burns, so I have to stay out of the sun. I think though the problem could be those homemade chili rellanos I ate yesterday.
No worm, I don't do tequilla very often. i would not recommend a second home in the city where I am going to be living for a couple of years. But there are some very nice interior cities that already have decent English speaking populations. Real Estate is a bargain compared to the USA. So is labor, you wife could have a fulltime housekeeper. I also think Cancun real estate will start becoming a bargain again soon, and if they resurrect the plan for an F1 circuit there, could be a great second home. And those homemade chili rellanos were incredible.
She already has one ME! She has a half-sister who grew up in Mexico City and based on her stories Mex. is not high on her list. I on the other hand.... Interesting comment about Cancun. David
FORGET Mexico City......sure, lots of night life...but dirty...smog....lots of crime. Private security business is booming. Since you are your wife's housekeeper, then you could hire one for yourself. Cancun has possibilities, some really nice water front developments. The only problem for me, Cancun can be victim of hurricanes, and I have had enough of those. Where I am at, no hurricanes, no tornados, and no earthquakes. But no Ferraris, nor would I have one here. And also no Greek food, I have to make my own baklava.
Yes, there are a few left. Come on down. Mexican food in the USA, even if owned by Mexicans, is different that the real thing. I made my Authentic American Mexican meal for my fiancee and her children last week, burritos and hard shell tacos, quite a novelty for them, but it turned really great. They don't use hard shell tacos, and very few burritons. Mostly just flour tortillas used as we would use bread. But, I can not understand the need for really hot sauce, takes away all the food flavor, and then there is the burns inside your mouth. The use it like candy.
Yes, wishful thinking. About 18 months ago, the Speedway thought they had a deal for this year. They even asked a friend if he would put on a car show the weekend of the 500 and the F1 race. Somehow the deal died, likely because Bernie and TG could not agree, and TG told Bernie to stuff it. But there is a lot of pressure from FOTA for the return of North American races. It makes the cost of the trip to Brazil more acceptable. I think that by 2011 the USGP will return to Indy.
HA! I had to explain a chimichunga to my fiancee. Its not on any menu here, never heard of one unless they have been to the states.
Returning to the subject of this thread, it appears all teams have signed their applications for 2010, but the rumors are getting stronger that Renault and Toyota will leave F1 at the end of the year. Nothing to do with this FIA/FOTA thing, but for corporate economic reasons. Briatore to buy the Renault team. I can not imagine who would buy the Toyota team, unless one of the newcomers uses them as way to get a rapid start. What about engines that are sold to the other teams, llike Williams that uses Toyota, and Red bull with their Renaults? For a moment, I was really hoping to see a Grand Prix with Ferrari, Toyota, Renault, Lola, Aston Martin (maybe), all on the grid. Sort of like the good old days.
