I was on the verge of pulling the trigger on a 2001 360 when this morning I was tipped off to the following car in NH. To avoid the sharks, I'll tell you a little something about the car and I personally know nothing about them. It is a yellow 1972 246GT that is in need of paint but no rust. The engine and ALL mechanicals have just been fully rebuilt by a reputable shop in MA. It does not have chairs or flairs books or records, it does have tools. They are asking a firm $75k. I am 6'3" and can fit into my 77 308, will I fit in a 246? If it checks out and needs paint, is it good deal? What more should I ask the owners wife?

    Best,

    David

Why would they not have it painted and then sell it at or near the market of 150k - 200kish. Something is not right or you have a great deal.

If you are normally proportioned, you will have a comfortable but snug fit. You will be looking partially at the windshield post. This can be corrected by moving the seat actually just slightly forward and then undoing the front to seat track bolts. Slip in several washers that will put the seat at a further rake backwards. Don't grip the steering wheel at the 12 and 3 or 12 and 9 position but just lightly hold it low at the 7 and 5 position. Then simply shuffle the wheel back and forth when driving.

Congratulations and best of luck on her.

    Cheers,

    Bill Noon

You can remove any Horsie badges as you do the paint work......does it still say "Dino" on the front badge??

Chairs and flares are way overvalued, te car looks better without them IMO...Reoriginals can do the seats if you really need them.

A few more and sorry for the duplicate. The car has no books, no tools and has some bubbling on the bottom of the passenger and drivers door. The brakes, bushings and suspension parts have been fully rebuilt, not the engine. According to the mechanic, the engine had good compression and good synchros before it was put away 2 years ago. It has logged a total a 500 miles in 12 years. This car is a Euro and has the appropriate headlight covers that go with it. The interior, albeit dirty, is intact and in fine condition.

In my mind it needs complete restoration. Do it, or I do ;-) 75$ is fair, even nowadays.

Me and Slick Murphy don't mess around.....LOL!

As I told a good looking girl the other day..."Life is short, I don't flirt frivilously, it's serious busness..."

Real nice that you get covered headlights, Euro...........cool!

They were taking it apart to paint?

I might do minimal repairs to the body and get it back on the road for awhile, to see what you have....

Covered headlights should be rebuild, not original.

Congrats on the Euro purchase! I picked up my 73 in the Summer and have loved it ever since. I'm still working out a few bugs, but it ran beautifully on the Red Rock Rallye (besides a charging problem). Around 1800 miles including the drive down from Seattle to Utah.

I'll be out in Essex Thanksgiving week, is it at a local shop being restored?

This car will not undergo a major restoration on my dime. I will get it sorted mechanically and drive it several times a week as I do my 77GTB. Sometimes in the rain, sometimes in the sun, sometimes with my dog in the passenger seat and sometimes with groceries and the dog. A bare metal respray for $25k will make me afraid to drive it and I have absolutely no interest in just staring at it in the garage. I'll keep it cosmetically/mechanically presentable and inhibit rust where possible. It will leak some oil, it might smell of unburned fuel and the intermittent wipers will continue to work intermittently all while I drive the wheels off of it.

I'll save the Pebble Beach restoration for the next owner. I'm just here for the ride.

    Best,
    D

    Nice!
Congratulation on joining the "La Famiglia Dino"

I see that it already has the Momo Prototipo steering wheel upgrade that Corbani and I agree on for driving.

Since the Ate brake calipers are off, if you need them rebuilt I know a very reasonably priced Porsche Specialist who does great work:

PS - It looks like a Euro version, but the rear inboard reflectors are USA style only items - ask Bill, he just fab'ed these out of Aluminum for us

    Congrats.

    Drive it.

If you start down the "I'll just paint it" road, you'll end up knee deep in $15-20K worth of paint and body work or more.

Doors look pretty spotty, and if they're starting to go, the rockers and wheel arches can't be far behind. (Ask me how I know.)

Drive it, enjoy it. When you get tired of it, let us know. :D
