Beautiful! White is my favorite too. Check 285s registry, he might know more. Good luck and put a challenge grill on that beauty! :D

i liked the car a lot since all my car are in white. i have been a porsche collector for quite sometimes which means i rarely visit my dealer except for regular oil chg and stuffs. I really want to get this car and it a two owner car. the cars was sold in AZ then 2nd owner in san fran. its pretty clean car except tehy have to repain the passenger sideskirt and the rear rim. someone who works there backed the car into something. other than that the leather is dry but not yet cracked on the seat and the dash got some minor shrinkage. the dealer is trying to pull up the servie history, but they advice it to at least do the timing belt and regular maintance which is around 11k they quoted. currently they are coming down the price to around 80k due to the fact that car is in need of service and got some minor scatchs. the salesman said that car dont need the clutch and we only drove around the block for a little bit since he forgot to bring his plate to the warehouse where they store the car. also the top is not able to be fully close at moment so they are working on that too. the car currently got 5k miles on it and seems like the previous owner really took good care of the cars appearance. the eingine started without any issue. idle was fine at around 1100 rpm. i thought that was high but sales said that is normal. AC is nice and cold.

so the above is my observation on some of the issues. what is this car actually worth ?? i know white car supposely not the favorite color for ferrari. also i have read a lot of post on valve guide issues. is that only with certain year model or is it with all 355. how do i know if there is a crack header ?? what else i should be looking for ? i have also heard a lot of issue with tranny on this forum too. what should be listening for when i drive the car ?? pls help me step over to the dark side of the force and obtain my very first ferrari :p

Since it needs a service @ 10K I would offer 70K......the market is only going to get worse. Car looks good, miles are good if you love it 75-80K isn't the end of the world either. Good luck! :D

Get a PPI done for sure.

the 355 is hopefully my first Ferrari. I would like to pay for it with the profits from my ferrari clothing business.

"I bought my first Ferrari by selling Ferrari clothes"

Wouldn't that be a great statement to be able to honestly say ;)

thanks guys for the tips. i simply hope to be able to talk to the previous owner and ask him what he has done in terms of service history on the car. so far the dealer only show 1 oil chg which was done two years ago.

also why some of the 355 have valve guide issues. can someone lead me to the thread ?? i am planning on driving this car quite a lot. how much is it to correct valve guide issue ??

A proper (third party) PPI will reveal many things otherwise hidden from a potential buyer. White is not a good color for easy resale if you decide to unload the car later. But if you're a collector of white cars then why not? I like white cars. My previous two 993's were white.

As for price. I would guess $70-$75 taking into consideration of color, mileage, needing a major, top not working properly, dash slightly shrinking, repainted right rocker, etc.

But just make sure you get a proper PPI. I wouldn't worry about valve guide so much since it's a '99. It doesn't guarantee you won't get a bad valve guide but just the probability is lower with a '99 car. And headers? they all go bad or will go bad at some point so I wouldn't worry about it. When they crack, just replace with better aftermarket ones.

Oh, and make sure that repainted rear wheel is straight.

    Just my $0.02

The mileage is really low, so once you sort out the issues you have a very low mileage car in a very rare color combination. Will always be worth more to the right buyer. However with all the problems it currently has I would not pay over $70,000 for it. This car needs at least $15,000 (if you do all the work at a dealer) to be in tip top condition and then it may even need headers.

Get a PPI and go from there.

    here is the dealers email

Our technicians have already inspected the car and found it in excellent condition. If they discovered damage to the belt or any other component that would make it unsafe to drive, they would have performed the belt service before allowing us to put it up for sale, but that wasn’t the case.

The car had an oil/fluid change in June 2006 at 5,100 miles and the previous one was in November 2004 at 2,800 miles. The belt service was never done in the life of this vehicle, so it’s definitely due but that doesn’t mean that it’s going to leave you stranded at any time.

I think it would give you the best peace of mind if we perform the service before you drive the car, would you consider doing it at our service department? Why don’t you call around in your area and see how much the service would cost you there? If the difference is not that big, it may be convenient to let us do it here.

I would not even turn this car over if I owned it before having the belts changed. To even suggest that the car is OK to drive with belts this old - especially with the low mileage - is almost criminal.

    Sean,

Looks like you're communicating with the sales dept. Call the service dept. directly and ask to talk to John Heim, he's the shop foreman, I use to be his foreman at FSF, He's a straight shooting honest guy. If he has looked at the car he will tell you straight up what is good and bad with it.

As far as shops go, PM me... I'll personally take care of it for you. Always ask for the techs. experience and Ferrari credentials.

I know guys that transport their cars from here to the SF/Bay area to have their cars serviced. I decided to move down here where the weather is better and save them the trip.

+10----I can't believe and have NEVER seen an authorized Ferrari dealer selling a car that is 10 years old knowing it needs a service, NEVER having a service and saying "the belts don't have any cracks"---WTF!!?? Even if you do buy it there--Go elsewhere for your major service, it is obvious the dealer doesn't care....
