    this is a pic of where it goes and I believe it's suppose to have a threaded rod embedded in the fibreglass mould that pierces the other trim piece which then allows it to be fastened with a nut

    Ah yes, I believe that is a Shedoni leather worker's thimble. When sewing the seats and interior parts together by hand, the tailors would slip one of these leather thimbles over their finger to avoid injury as they pushed the needle through the material. A metal thimble would leave too many marks on the leather. This of course explains the tiny blood spots on the back of the seats... :)

    I think you'll discover that it's a delicate little factory option into which one stubs out a single cigarette. Only for sophisticated types, of course, and extremely rare.
