A bit excited as I have just had an email from the original purchaser of my 1985 QV. My car now resides in Melbourne, Australia but was purchased from a dealership in Scotland. (I myself am English having moved here in 2010). The purchaser now resides in Italy so it just shows how small the world is getting with modern technology.
I tracked him down using the original warranty card and owners handbook as the purchaser was also the dealership owner (I now know that it was used as a demonstrator for 4-5 months).
One interesting fact is that when ordered from new it was ordered with a leather dash which he tells me was very hard to obtain and had to use his contacts to achieve this.
This is confirmed by the literature I received from Maranello Concessionaires where the leather dashboard costs an additional £270 +VAT.
He is kindly looking for any old pictures he might have to forward them on to me.

How long did it take you to track down the original owner?

I started maybe 6 months ago by searching for the car dealership, but got lucky with Facebook.
I think he has enjoyed seeing the old documents in his handwriting and photo's as well. (it was him who filled out all the dealership paperwork even though it was his own car).

My original owner was a neuro surgeon from Waco Texas. Spoke with him on the phone for a while. He said he has owned other high end sports cars but none compare to the Ferrari 308i. He was very glad to know it still was in great shape.

    It was the 80's afterall....

I saw a 1500 mile 1979 308 last week. How does one keep such a low mileage example? Simple the owner went to prison for 15 years the month after he got the car.

From what I remember it was for some type of fraud coupled with tax evasion. You know the normal stuff you would expect ;)
