This is real hard for me to explain, so sorry if I lose you during this.

If you have ever been in a pitch black room, so black you cant see your own hand infront of your face, no light at all, you may know what I'm talking about.

When me and some friends were going to sleep at my friends last night, my friend mentioned how dark it was, I knew what was in the room so my eyes were trying to place them but couldnt, there were colors like purple in green and I could see random shapes apear. That wasnt as weird as what was happening though

So my friend started talkin and we noticed that we could almost see him, but not really. Since I guess were weird, we started clapping and stuff to see what would happen. It blew my mind because I could see his movement, like a purple outline or cloud or somethin, its not static electricity, I know what that looks like, and it wasnt, then my friend breathed into the air and a purplish cloud came up, he then put is head through and and I saw his head outline.

I swear to God that that there was not any light, our eyes were having trouble with this, like I said they were trying to place things in the room, but coulnt see it so when you would put yourself into a corner and got a feel for what the room was like, my eyes would try to place the TV from what I thought was about 5 feet higher then it should be.

I really think that you guys should try this to see if you guys get the same thing to happen

Let me mention that we were not high or drunk or in anyother way messed up, totally sober in every sense....I think after we knew what was happeing we may have thought we saw, before I start rambling Ill end the post lol. I know this really doesnt look like it should be on F-chat.com, but this is the off-topic thread so I though I would share.

I think the only weird thing here is that you were going to bed in a pitch dark room with several other guys ;)

All joking aside, I know what you are talking about.

You described it better than I couldve, and I really dont have much to add.

I do have a question for anyone that might know:

What causes the random colors, shapes, lights and tracers that I constantly see throughout the day? Any time I unfocus at all, I begin to notice crazy halos around objects in my field of vision, and all sorts of colors and half-visible objects and tracers (dont know any other word for those, I look away from something and it stays visible in the same place in my vision, but its faint and undefined). Anyone have a clue?

The next time you are sacking out with the boys, break single wintergreen lifesavers with your teeth with your mouth open in the pitch black. The sparks are pretty cool to watch! For those interested, please read on!...(Ya, I must sound like Cliff Claven from Cheers!)

The sparks given off by the Lifesavers are caused by an effect called triboluminescence. Triboluminescence is the creation of light by friction. This was first studied by Sir Francis Bacon about 400 years ago, even before the wintergreen Lifesaver was invented. It turns out that lots of things can glow when friction is applied. If you look closely, quickly stripping a roll of tape can cause a faint blue glow to appear.

It turns out that sugar is triboluminescent. When you crush sugar crystals, because of their irregular crystal structure, the breaking of the sugar crystals produces fragments that are positively and negatively charged. This separation of charge can become great enough to create small sparks to jump through the air. This is like how lightning occurs between the ground and the clouds, except on a much, much smaller scale – you’re not going to be able to reanimate dead flesh by stomping on a few sugar packets.

Normally, when you crush sugar, these small sparks excite nitrogen molecules in the air, which subsequently emit mostly ultraviolet light. We can see only a small amount of this light, emitted as a faint bluish glow. Most candies should be capable of this, though it is really hard to see.

However, if you’ve gone off and tried the wintergreen Lifesaver experiment, you’ll notice that the Lifesavers produce a pretty bright flash of light. Obviously, there is something special about the wintergreen Lifesavers which makes them so much brighter. That special something is methyl salicylate, which gives it the wintergreen flavor. Methyl salicylate, it turns out, can absorb the ultraviolet light given off by the nitrogen, and re-emit it as visible light. This is what makes the wintergreen Lifesavers so much cooler (pun totally intended and planned for paragraphs in advance).

Aint ya glad ya read this!
