In Goleta CA (Santa Barbara). At a nine hole golf course, parked under a canvas tent top, an unrestored dark blue 246 GTB complete with door dings and cob webs on the tail lights. Tires looked good -- probably a driver still. Had a custom one word CA plate. It was too late to investigate. Anybody know this car?

As a newcomer, I think the 246GT is the "berlinetta" version, and the 246GTS is the spider (or was it "spyder" then - between Maserati and Ferrari it's hard to keep the y's and i's straight).

blue 246GT would be very sweet - good find, tell us more!

Thought I'd pass along this one in So. California. About 20 years ago, a friend of mine found a 275GTB that was basically abandoned in some guys garage ... untouched or driven for many years .... it had been repainted orange years before by one of those low buck $ 200 paint shops ...... needless to say, it was in pretty bad shape. He bought it for $ 20,000. Has since restored it to as new (or maybe even better) .....

That was a real barn find ..........

It's interesting that this story has come up. Two weeks ago I got a call from an individual that knew I was a "ferrari person" he wanted to know if I would look at his recently deceased uncles 1980 308 GTSi. He told me his uncle bought the car brand new in july 1980 at the Monteray, CA dealer(I saw the paper work on it to verify this). This car has been in an airport hanger in Kalispell, Mt for 23 years, 9200 miles and the original timing belts, all the service records were in the car (what there was of them) . Probably not the most desirable Ferrari but it was cool to see it, a little dusty but great shape.

I own the blue Dino. It is a daily driver with 183,000 miles so far. I am the second owner and bought it in 1986 at 51,000 miles. Just overhauled the motor and things look pretty good after 2000 miles. Do most all work myself if possible.
The first owner put wide 16" wheels on it and I run 205/55 tires in front with 225/50 in the rear. Sweetest handling car I have ever driven.
Even little kids give me a "thumbs up" when I pass them. The body lines are timeless. Be glad to answer questions.

John, amazing to hear the car has lasted as long as it has. Also nice to hear that you are still driving it. (The cobwebs must have been an exaggeration if you drive it every day?)

good to have here. We would obviously love to see some pics of the Dino.

Attached are two pics of the blue Dino. First is "In the barn at sunset". Second was for a friend who wanted to sit in it.

The car is a driver. Never restored but repaired hundreds of times. All smog gear was removed when no longer required. Was not working when I bought the car but careful tuning kept car passing every year. Air conditioning compressor and lines also removed. Not needed in Santa Barbara. Engine access is now just fine.

I drive the car fast but not hard. The clutch still had life at 181,000 miles. The brake disks are still ok. Tires last 30,000 miles and brake pads about the same. Most water hoses replaced. Oil cooler hoses were a problem until I made my own. Valves were re-done at 100,000 miles. I pulled and replaced the heads myself. There is just enough room to do it without pulling the engine. I finally had to farm things out for the recent complete overhaul.

NGK Platinum/Irridium plugs last forever. Foam filters just above the Weber jets keeps the carburators tuned for months. GT Car Parts in Phoenix gets parts here the next day.

After 19 good years, the Dino is the most reliable car I have owned. Had 2 MG TDs then went to Alfa. A 1200 Spyder, 1600 Spyder, 1600 Gulia Sprint Speciale were practice before the Dino. Ferrari is in another world.

Beautiful car. What make of wheels are those? They don't look strange for the car. A nice choice even though it was from the previous owner. I hope to replicate your "record".
