After doing all the usual things like checking the thermostat, radiator cap & rebuilding the radiator I have finally found the cause of my overheating issues. There is no nut on the waterpump impeller? There is no sign of the nut, lock tab or washer so I don't know if they have been pushed up into the engine water gallery or if they were just not installed in a previous service. At least the shaft looks OK so it will not be an engine out job but the front housing & impeller do not look cheap.

On Ferraris that nut is an option.

The parts are on order. I was right it wont be cheap! The front cover, impeller, bush, nut, locking tab, washer & set of seals came to about $1100 AUD. Now for the long wait for them to arrive.

I would have reused the impeller....

I recently had my water pump done here (they did need parts support on the bearings and seals from Ferrari) but they put a shiny one in my hand for about $465USD.

Good luck on your (finally) cool running car!

I am waiting on some radiator fans now....
    :D :D :D

Eurospares have advised me that they can't get the water pump cover part # 104328.

Does anyone have any leads on a new or good secondhand one?

    Cheers Al

I'm happy to say that my overheating issue has been sorted.
A new impeller, bush, seals, lock tab & nut were fitted. I ended up taking the water pump front cover off the other 400I that I'm slowly restoring until I can get a replacement from Maranello Parts who are getting these remade.

Can the old one just be re-surfaced ? Brass (impeller) on aluminum (cover) should not have worn away too much material --- just a lot of galling. The gap tolerance between impeller fins and cover surface should not be too critical...... I might be inclined to take comparative measurements against the good one, and see if you can make her fly :). heck you may not even need to bother with resurfacing ---- just clean up any burrs and sharp edges so they don't shed pieces later into the system ????
