Found while splitting wood, wtf?

It's winter, everyone loves a burning fire in the fireplace....so I pulled out the fun & exciting pneumatic log-splitter and started into a pile of wood. I was dropping large pieces in and splitting them into smaller pieces (which is, of course, the function of a log-splitter)...when one piece broke apart very easy and out tumbled (to my freakish dismay) and swarm of huge bee's!!!!

Now, I've seen these bees flying around and generally people call them "bumble bee's"...but I honestly have no idea if they sting and what their story is. Most of them were black but a larger one was yellowish. At first they were a bit sluggish, but then came the nasty buzzing sound (sorta like a capristo w/o cats).

Somehow they made tunnels in the wood and were living in this piece of dried wood. I've never known bees to do that???? Can anyone say for sure what these things are all about? do they sting? ...one thing for sure, they're scary/nasty!!!!!

With that machine you have to push a button to operate the motor/pump and (at the same time) drop a lever to actuate the ram. My face was about 20" away from the swarm of bees when the log cracked-open, split apart and some dozen bees came falling out. About a dozen more were just sticking to the logs too. Very disturbing. I think the neighborhood heard me scream "WTF!!!!!!!"

The most bizarre part is their rear body...it pulses & throbs like a beating heart. I won't disclose how I took care of the whole problem, just suffice it to say that if I posted a thread about it...it would be titled "Fun with WD-40 & lighter fluid". I hope God wasn't watchin'...cause it wasn't exactly the kind of inspirational stuff you want on your Earthly resume'

 

Hey...Noah, Lamour....it's Friday night, shouldn't you guys be out stalking your victims & looking to score some 'tang?

I mean, I'm married and have 3 young kids....but you guys have an obligation to kick it up a notch and have some fun. Dudes??????
