They really need to get transportation up and down the Strip sorted out in order for some of these new projects to succeed. There's only so much walking you can do and the detheming of casinos in my mind is providing less of a real incentive to go out of your way to visit various casinos.

The SLS is connected via monorail and still no one goes there because the monorail is on the far backside of a lot of casinos.

Still, I am looking forward to the redevelopment of the north Strip ... it will be great for my property value if it succeeds.

I thought the "Deuce" buses were convenient for that reason, there are tons of them going up and down the strip all the way to Fremont. Not to mention all the Uber cars everywhere, I think there is no shortage of transportation there.

Sorry about calling you a whiner Lotaz :D It's just that I've heard the same thing from so many friends and other people out there. Point is, the guy was simply making an analogy about the country's economy and I think the point was a valid one. If you're struggling financially, you don't go blowing cash on non-vital items. I remember Reid complaining about it but I suspect that's just politicians being politicians. Everyone's ready to be a victim these days, just waiting for someone to offend them...

I bought a few homes in FL right befor the big crash so I can sympathize with people in Vegas. I think those were two of the hardest hit areas so it's nice to see Vegas on the upswing. I've been toying with the idea of moving out there for a while but FL is still lagging to the point that 8-9 years later, my places are still worth less than what I bought them for so I'm holding out for a while before I can sell those and buy elsewhere. A high rise condo in Vegas (something like a Fountainbleu) would be ideal since the ones out there seem to be 10x better than the ones here in DC while they cost half as much. One of these days....

I have been telling my wife since we got out here we should get a high rise condo as we are empty nesters and this is the time to do it. The main stopping point is parking. We have 3 vehicles and I am not giving up either of the two I have and she won't give up hers. If I could come up with a good solution we still might do it.

Have you checked to see if you can buy extra spaces in any of the condo buildings? My brother was looking at condos a couple of years ago and was offered additional parking spots when he asked. I don't remember which buildings though.

My dream is to get a strip condo for weekends "away" after our child gets older. I'd love to have a place I could use down there when we want to go out, have dinner, couple drinks, show, etc.

I came so close to buying one or more condos when new condos in City Center were being dumped for $99k when the market crashed....

Yea we checked but then they got cost prohibitive. I don't have the money many on this site have that's for sure. There were some options, like renting spaces from people who don't use them as well as a car in the visitors area. All options but nothing guarantied on parking. The other option we have been toiling with is to keep my house but have a condo for our get always and then rent it out for those high volume times out here.

Did you know that a local can ride the monorail 2 times a day for $1 each way? That's pretty amazing. Yes, it stops in the back of the casinos but if you look close, its actually closer than the free parking lots are. You have to walk farther to get into the MGM by parking than if you took the monorail.

We enjoy our strip condo and the hotel condo program returns a moderate amount of money in the rental program when we don't use it (which is obviously most of the time). Really fun to own. Honestly these condos have not recovered *that* much relative to many other areas in the U.S. so in my opinion there are still pretty good deals to be found.

Well, we're not locals so it doesn't help us that much. :) We generally just stay on the strip.
I like idea of the monorail in general but it just doesn't service the right areas ... skips the wynn and venetian entirely, doesn't run to the airport ... I think the only saving grace is that it runs to the convention center, which makes a lot of hotels viable for conferences.

What most people forgot is that Fountainebleu was supposed to outdo City Center. The big blue glass wall was supposed to be a giant LED screen and the pool ran around the complex. About 70- 80% of it is done. Most of what's left is in the interior.

Also it was to have 1100 condo units and about 2300 hotel rooms which seems like a totally out of wack ratio to me. The Fountainebleu ironically is the tallest building in the State of Nevada.

Will the new owners follow the plan?

New condos are definitely dead on the strip ... still too much oversupply. I think the strip has so much potential in terms of ownership and unique appeal, but it will take time for the hype to rebuild. Construction is easy and there is a lot of land around.

high rise residential units on or adjacent to the Strip are the sole market segment significantly lagging the tremendous recovery in LAS regional housing.

I started thinking that if I rented my house to my daughter then I could still park my toy car there. Then I could get myself a condo on the strip. I would love to help them with the recovery! :)

Man that's exactly the kind of place I'd want to be. I work from home so with the pool, bars, restaurants, spa, etc I'd never leave the property :D
