The greening of F1, reducing the current V-8's to four cylinder 1.6 liter engines in 2013. Drivers will be allowed only 5 engines for the season, rev's dropped to 12K. I think that will reduce the interest of views who watch F1.

I doubt true F1 fans will loose interest because of the turbo 4 bangers. Hell I have been following and watching every race since 1979 and the changing reg's are just a part of every form of motorsports not just F1. The 1.6ltr turbo era was my favorite era so in summary I think some are being overly melodramatic or have never witnessed a 750+hp 4 cylinder in anger.

Either continue following F1 and accepting the changes you have no power over or stop watching, pretty simple imho.

Are F1 fans frogs or camels?
They say if you put a frog in a pot of water and raise the temperature slowly enough he won't notice it until he's cooked.
Or will one more straw break our backs?

I liked the Turbo era. I thought it was highly innovative. And, the power was amazing.

I also liked that engines blew up all the time. You don't see that anymore. In the turbo days, you'd see 2 or 3 a race. Now, it's 2 or 3 a year.

But, my feeling is that you can't go back. There's too many restrictions the FIA puts in what you can and can't do anymore.

I also fail to see how this will be green or any greener than it is now. The only way F1 will be green is to stop it completely.

Maybe this will do it...Maybe that's the idea.

Maybe you should ask yourself that question?

I batter and fry my frog's as boiling extracts the real flavor. I'm a optimist and since we are just tossing opion's around, which is good, I never said my opinion was 100% correct as it is just my opinion. I bet you will still be watching in '13-'14 so let's pick it up then.

The truth is that I'm surprised at how much better the sport is this year.So I'll give them a chance whatever formula they adopt.
The fact that in all these years, under an assortment of fools, the FIA hasn't ruined F1 yet. I guess that's cause for optimism.

Plus Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha :). Oh, and Hyosung too, no? Ha ha.

With 1,150HP and 20K RPM (and only 1.5L)? Yeah, right.

Only 12K RPM now? Freaking street motorcycles rev much higher than that. Geez. I wouldn't watch that either. And even less attend a race.

Cars are not the major contributors to global pollution!
If they want to make our world greener,
they have to knock the doors of "Emerging Economies" ;)

Why put a 4 Cylinder in an F1 car, whats the point???
It is not like they are doing anything new!!!

There are already Formula Series with 4 Cylinder engines,
like Formula Renault or Formula BMW!

Why don't they just cancel F1,
    and stop the "Greenness Circus"?

If we really would be serious about saving the planet (what a ludicrous idea) them there shouldn't be any racing at all.
No fuel should be burned, no green house gases generated other than those absolutely necessary to sustain human life.

The truth is that its just a big fraud perpetrated by flat earth no growthers environmental nazis.

Ignorance is bliss isn't it!?!?!? Riddle me this riddle me that, why was I able to make 550+rwhp on a 'low boost' setting with my daily driver with an I4?

I don't care if they can make 2,000 HP. They're going to sound like crap at 12K rpm, compared to 18K with a NA V8. And yes, that's MY opinion, and MY decision not to watch F1 anymore :). Plus it's going to be an HP cap too, probably around today's 750HP level. Good day.

Sounds like I may need to make arrangements to attend the Austin race in 2012 if I want to hear the higher revving engines.

F1 wants to reduce fuel use, so 4 cyl turbos, but yet wants to reduce costs and increase durability, so highly stressed 4 cyl turbos?

if (big "if") F1 was wise, then keep current V8 engines (reduced development costs), and require meeting a fuel consumption level, and even introduce a more eco friendly fuel as required (something like E85)

F1 is supposed to be the "top" of formula series cars, the GP2 cars (and similar) are 4 bangers, IMO F1 'should' be "more" ....more cylinders, more speed, more excitement (i'm disappointed in the return-of-marbles=limited-passing too)

switching up the whole rule set with entirely new engine formulas every few years is wasteful, expensive, and ridiculous IMO :)

    Do some research ok!

F1 is already fueled by 'pump gas' ie what we get at the gas stations.

    'Nyet' GP2 cars are 4.0 Renault V8's.
