I have read that Porsche has been considering a four door sedan/coupe. It appears they are getting closer to making that a reality. This is an interesting article on the Porsche Panamera. The article has a picture and suggest it may come out in 2008. A concept version will be shown at Frankfurt Auto show in Sept.

So what does everyone think? Should Porsche produce a four door sedan/coupe? I am sure there will be a lot of angry Porsche owners who will not be in favor of this.

I like the suicide doors too. Hopefully those won't be axed if the car is produced.

I like it-especially if its bigger inside than the CLS. What a disappointment to have seen all those pretty CLS pictures, and find out in the flesh it's in a 7/8th scale. OK for all those families comprised of little people (homo florensis descendants) but too small for normal people. The rear is more successful too than the infiniti-esque drooping trunk of the CLS.

The Porsche purist in me was killed with the Cayenne unveiling.

    So...

I guess I can safely say that I like the Porsche Sedan. I especially like the 928-esque rear and suicide doors. Handsome car, should do nicely with a price point 20K below the Mas QP.

Do these companies bother to do a marketing study before they introduce these cars?? It's not the internet boom anymore, I just don't see customers lining up to buy a $90k Porsche sedan...

Why not, there are tens of thousands who've stepped up to AMG Mercedes and BMW M's- why not drive a REAL sports sedan when you have to drop the kids at school?

Sure they should build it. Why not?

The Porsche of old is long dead anyhow. The company that won Lemans 17 times and built cars like the 550, 356GS Carrera, RSK, original 911S, 911RS, 906, 908, 910, 917, 934, 935, 956, 962 and all the other fantastic hard core sports cars that the company built its reputation on....... that company is long dead now.

The Porsche of today is profit motive driven pure and simple. They no longer care about top level racing and excellence in design for its own sake. They care about production efficiencies and expanded model lines. They are no different from Ford or GM or Daimler Benz....

So why not build a sedan? I am sure they will. In fact, 10 years from now I would expect them to offer several sedans in several market segments. They will eventually even offer an economy car sedan.

Because when you see bread and butter cars Porsche built like new leftover 03-04 boxsters / 04 996's still sitting on dealer lots heavily discounted going unsold.... Branching out to cover a new niche is not a frugal idea..

Porsche should resurrect the 928 instead of a Sedan. Rumors exist that Porsche might make a 928 or a Sedan. Producing a new 928 would be much better from the enthusiast point of view not that Porsche cares much about the enthusiast anymore.

Most of the 928's were purchased by the gold chain crowd who wanted a luxurious automatic cruiser as an alternative to an SL Benz... Today, only a handful of enthusiasts appreciate the few 5-speeds that were made... When I see the used car market, it seems like the ratio between automatic vs. manual is 80/20...

Like RideOnTime said, after the Cayenne, this is no big deal. It's actually more in line with the Porsche concept than a friggen truck. I bet they could make a phenominal sports sedan, and that thing looks ready to run. I just wish they didn't try to make each one of these segment crossing vehicles look like some sort of mutant 911. Give the car it's own identity, stop trading off the 911 for everything.

As for Porsche in motorsports... they'll be back.

IIRC, the 928 was slated to replace the 911, which didn't (and doesn't) need replacing.

A sedan from Porsche is a lovely idea. I'm sure it will be a lovely automobile.

Porsche "purists" remind me of platform evangilists in the OS world. Nerdery, it seems, spans all human interests.
