My car does not like the 4 to 3 down shift at all. 4 to 2 doesn't seem to be a problem. 3 to 2 doesn't seem to be a problem.

Is this normal, or do i have something worn out?

1 to 2 I have to take a bit easy to avoid a gear snick.

Running Redline 75W90 NS lube. I may need to adjust my clutch cable a bit to make sure clutch is fully disengaged with pedal to floor. It may be fine, but it is something I want to look at.

    Thanks,
    Doug

You didn't say what the problem is, if it's gear grinding then I'd say worn synchros (big job), if the wrong gear is selected (you go for 4th but 2nd engages while the gear lever is in the correct slot fot 4th) then your forks needs realigning (easy).

Bad grind in the 4-3 downshift. It just won't go unless double clutch, or motor RPM is low

    No problem upshift, just down.

Motor will be removed next year for overhaul, so I guess transmission is just a bit more work and $$.

Should I start collecting transmission parts now?

You only need to change the synchros then, readily available (the synchros not the money for the repair).

As far as Red Line goes, aren't we supposed to be running the regular 75W90 (not the NS) with just enough friction modifier (if any) so that the differential doesn't groan?

Isn't the whole thing with the gear oil that the NS is too slick for the synchros?

If I am not mistaken, Doug, you should start by draining all of the current oil out and filling with the regular 75W90. You may have some wear on that synchro, but it may not be that bad and only be acting up because of the friction modifier.

I'm not positive above, but do a search for red line and gear oil here -- I think that's what you'll find . . .

Only 2nd gear should be a little difficult during warm-up. All the other gears should be a smooth operation.
