I am interested in the black 355 spider at FOW. it's listed at 89. they also have a gts for 99 and a gtb for 104. these prices seem to imply that there's something wrong w/ the spider. anyone know this car? it is supposed to be the service (?) manager's car. on the price disparity, i was told that ferrari made many more spiders so they're more common and hence less expensive than the more "rare" gts/gtbs. i've never head this theory before. i've always seen prices for the spiders be higher.

well if they get that kind of money for those 2 cars they will be most expensive gts/gtb sold this year probably by any one. as they say you never know what your gonna catch when you go fishin. damn i'm gonna run right down there and buy that common spider that nobody wants. hell its been raining for three days anyway!

There isn't enough info above to allow a fair judgement. What years are the cars? first year 355s go for less, final yr 355s go for more. How many miles on each? Can make a large difference. Also, are they all in the same condition?
Have they all had recent service? etc etc.

I was out there test driving another car today and I have seen the GTB and GTS red. The GTB is true show car! I believe it had 4300 miles on it and the owner had a clear bra on the underside of the car! What the??! The GTS is also a stunning car, it is also in very good condition. I believe the red GTS is there on consignment, I maybe wrong, but I think so.
    Anyway, both very lovely cars!

I was at FOW last week and saw the GTB and it is "that" nice although it did seem like a paint peeling price but I would bet it is probably the best one for sale in the country.

bottom line it sounds like it's more of a case that the GTS and GTB are on the higher (est) end of their respective spectrums and not that the spider has any great defects.

that low of miles explains why the gtb is the most expensive. actually, i believe the gts is the rarest of 3 trims of the 355.

All three cars had a leak down and compression test. Major services are up to date on all cars. All three cars have passed Ferrari's certification program, however , because of the age of the vehicles , a warranty is not available.
The Spider is a 1997 model
    GTS is a 1998
    GTB is a 1999.
Condition, mileage determined the value of each car.
Generally Spiders will sell for more, but it is a 1997.

the GTS was there when i bought my TR. it looked very nice, but very expensive. FOW seems to have a mix of very expenisve cars and others that are decently priced. haven't figured out what the difference is about. they are all described as excellent, low miles with recent majors. maybe nothing to do with the car itself, but with demand for that model/year. so could be less demand for a spider than gtb/gts models.

thank you for all your responses. is the consensus here that i should still get a ppi done by an independent? is it foolish to rely on FOW's "reputation"?

Leakdown & compression + major services up to date + certification sounds pretty good to me! I've bought a bunch of cars from FoW (incl an F40) and never had an independent PPI, but in the end it's your $$ and all about whatever makes you comfortable.

But why worry, when you could buy the beautiful new candy apple red Gallardo spider on the showroom floor and get a warranty, too .... ;)

Edit - they've got a pretty good selection of Ferrari and Mas spiders, in addition to the Lambo - hate going there on a sunny day, too much temptation.

The car looks clean and well maintained, recent major service , fluids, books ,records, tool kit, all services up to date. The car is worth stopping by to take a look at.
