Hi all. Tomorrow (19 March) is the last open day during March. I will be in attendance during the morning (10am to 12 noon). The next batch of open days are during April on the following dates: *Tuesday 5 April to Saturday 9 April, from 9am to 1pm *Tuesday 12 April to Saturday 16 April, from 9am to 1pm All proceeds go to Red Cross Australia Cheers!
During the open days can anyone turn up and get entry? I was under the impression that they only let groups of at least 15-20 people through, not individuals - but is this what open days are for? I really want to go there as its probably the only chance I will get in this country to see an 288GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo
The collection does offer private tours for various groups (probus, car clubs etc) but these open days are completely open to the public; the only proviso is that you make a contribution at the door (effectively an entry fee which goes to charity). Like I said, I'll be there tomorrow morning, so feel free to come down. I'm not sure about when I'll be there during the April dates as I'm absolutely snowed under with uni at the moment (and will be so in the near future!)
unfortunately living in Perth means I can't just 'come down' to Melbourne whenever I feel like it.....but I am planning a snowboarding trip later this year in NZ and we might spend a few days in in Melb on the way back so I will definately stop by Do they have these open days every month? Also, do you know whether they allow cameras inside to take pics of the cars?
Hmmmmm .... sounds tempting. I think I may have to make it. Sorry for the total ignorance, but where is the place?
Just went today, it was great... though myself i prefer the ferrari f40 and f50 then the enzo... i just think it looks somewhat tacky with its yellow roof (even though it is one of a kind) anyhows, i've taken photos of the whole lot, it was pretty neat (could sit for hours looking at f50) photos dont do this car justice
Okay i'll give it a shot at sharing them.. hope it works, n hopefully they dont suck too much... overall i belive i took about 140 odd photos, so i've only included the photos i thought came out the best.. well hope you all like them http://img74.exs.cx/img74/4974/dscn05487yt.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/4462/dscn05494tq.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/8746/dscn05500wt.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1651/dscn05535ay.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/3453/dscn05569ox.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1538/dscn05588vn.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/4888/dscn06592ga.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/203/dscn06639wk.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1876/dscn05660rw.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/3533/dscn05674pl.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/3373/dscn05721nn.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/6494/dscn05742pt.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/2946/dscn05759xp.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/5255/dscn05766zb.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/6236/dscn05778be.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1817/dscn05799fp.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/8699/dscn05807el.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/4268/dscn05812bp.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1884/dscn05822pp.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1858/dscn05833mw.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/7987/dscn05847pq.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/8783/dscn05851ya.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/4791/dscn05861rw.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/9200/dscn05904ex.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/2227/dscn06112ta.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/248/dscn06121nz.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/8286/dscn06148ks.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/9265/dscn06164dw.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1971/dscn06178rt.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/5544/dscn06191xt.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/2031/dscn06215ug.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/6879/dscn06225fb.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1599/dscn06237nt.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/9449/dscn06266cl.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/918/dscn06270zg.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/6698/dscn06283kx.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/4671/dscn06304dp.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/4480/dscn06334yk.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/6341/dscn06377ws.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/1586/dscn06392oz.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/5854/dscn06429af.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/667/dscn06432xn.jpg http://img74.exs.cx/img74/8008/dscn06535si.jpg Done.. well i hope it works cos that took ages
Sorry for the late reply, been busy. I am not aware of on open day on that particular date (if there was I'm sure I would have received an e-mail update). I'm going in this Saturday, so I'll find out for sure then. BTW Jimbo49, fantastic pictures; hope you had a good time.
Im glad you liked the photos.. i preferred the F40 + f50 to the enzo. It was just awesome going up there to view fox's cars. He didnt have the 288gto on display anywhere nor his bathurst winning r32 GTR driven by mark scaife, does he have these cars at his personal residence, a workshop or another museum?
I can confirm for you that there is no open day on the 23 April. Today was the final day. For those of you wondering where the 288GTO is, it is in the workshop being serviced. Im sure it will be back on display during the next round of open days. I will post those dates when they are announced.
Few more pics of the F40, F50 and Enzo taken by me at the Fox Museum Red Cross open charity day 16/04/05. http://img260.echo.cx/img260/9519/enzo1zv.jpg http://img196.echo.cx/img196/8250/f405dh.jpg http://img249.echo.cx/img249/4619/f509um.jpg http://img255.echo.cx/img255/3739/foxferraricollection2bu.jpg
nice pics, i see he has a fomula 1 car as well... that wasnt there when i was there.. is this a new purchase?
That F1 is an engine-less replica that was loaned to the collection to fill in the gap created by the 288 GTO being in the workshop. It was there for the first round of open days in March, taken away, and then returned at some point during the April days. This explains why it may not have been there when you visited the collection.
Thanks for that.. i wished i had been able to see it, even if it was engine-less.. while we're on the topic of formula 1 cars, who loaned the F1 replica to the museum, and where does the 288 GTO get serviced at? Lance Dixon Ferrari? sorry it's alot of questions
No worries, I like these kind of questions! I think the F1 replica was loaned from the AGP Corporation; I'm not 100% sure of this, but I will find out for certain. The 288GTO (along with pretty much all the cars) is serviced in-house at the collection's own workshop, by FCCC mechanics. These guys are true artisans; the workmanship they display on both the mechanical and panel beating aspects of car restoration and maintenance is second to none. Mind you, I am no expert, but I think I can recognise quality when I see it. Their restoration (in progress) of a light blue/grey Gullwing almost made me weep it was THAT beautiful.
thanks for that, i didnt think they serviced the cars themselves, but obviously i was wrong... they havnt had the shed out the back to service the cars that used to be there, so it has been moved else where i take it?
