    Nice anecdotal story: Widow of a wealthy California man took her hubby's Ferrari to a SF dealer to determine why it was so hard to drive. She spotted a burly man with a big smile at the front door and asked for help. "Well ma'am", he drawled. "let's take her out and see". A ripping ten minute tour of the city a la BUllitt followed, but REALLY FAST. The lady was never frightened, as the man was obviously an expert driver. When they returned to the dealer , the man informed her that the car's gearbox required running time to loosen up, as it had a dedicated oil supply. "Nice car", he said with a smile. Later that month, the lady recognized her chauffer on ABC's Wide World of Sports as the Indianapolis 500 winner. His name? A.J. FOYT!!! True story,maybe-- Page Two--

    I've heard a similar story (I think from Road and Track). It goes like this:

    A lady (also in SF) was having a problem using the clutch of her Ferrari. She asked a mechanic to drive the car and see if he could find the problem. After a quick test drive, he came back and said there was nothing wrong with the clutch. The problem was her SHOES. He told her that if she's going to drive a Ferrari, she has to give up high heels.

    She later learned the name of the mechanic turned out to be AJ.

    Since when did/does Texan AJ Foyt hang out at San Francisco's Ferrari dealership, especially in the service shop?

    AJ's history with Ferrari and Mecum does overlap, and he owned a late Boxer 512.......but I'd suspect the details of this 'legend' lack accuracy..

    Ask him, Jim.......

    I do know Jack Starnes, his long time Shop Manager, told me the story of them both meeting Enzo, he said it was a spooky thing, the way he appeared and disappeared thru out the tour of the Factory.....
