Guys, I'm putting together a trip to France and Italy and could use some advice. I've already scheduled the Ferrari factory tour...so the obvious one is taken care of. We were thinking a lot of winery tours in northern Italy and then maybe Bordeaux and Burgundy (love French wine). But I thought maybe the collective wisdom of FChat could maybe tell me of hidden gems or unique things that would be tough to find on my own. Thanks in advance.

PS..we are active and adventurous so those types of ideas are super welcome.

    Hi,

How many time do you intend to stay in France ?

What are the absolute things you want to do ?

Very nice places too in the South of France where you can combine nice sites, cities, wines, on the way to Italy.

I'm going to be in Nice already, about a week overall. I'd like to see some wineries.

If you drive from Nice to Burgundy go via the Route Napoleon - can be slow due to Dutch caravans but worth it - not too sure about the Nice area but some fab visits possible around Beaune which is about a days's drive away

    Beaune, BOrdeaux...

1 day trip from NIce !

As regards wineries, you can find in the Nice surrounds an appellation that only real Connoisseurs know :

    The wines from Bellet

    http://www.vinsdebellet.com/

But you can come in Aix-en-Provence (1H30 from Nice) and visit me to go to the Coteaux d'Aix en Provence, the appellation Sainte VIctoire, the Coteaux du Luberon...

1H00 more, you are in Chateaueuf du Pape. Strong reds.

Near Toulon, 1H00 from Nice, you have the very good Bandol wines (near too the Castellet / Paul Ricard racetrack) and 30mn more, near Marseille, the Cassis Wines.

And Cassis is only 40 mn from Aix.

I was in St. Emilion in the Bordeaux region in October and toured several of the wineries in the vicinity. I would go back in half a heartbeat :) One of THE coolest places I've ever seen!

Haha, I'm sure there are many! The Southwest coast is amazing, too...I'm a fanatical surfer, so Hossegor and Biarritz blew me away (clean, 10-12 ft faces when I arrived!!!!). You live in a beautiful country! Sadly, my French connection and I broke up, so I won't be back until I polish my French a bit :)
