Years ago, at the Art Center School of Design, I attended a screening of a movie of the racing life (and death) of Francois Cevert. It's working title was "One on One", or One by One". I don't think it was ever distributed. It was quite well done, and I've often wondered what happened to it. Its theme was a year in the life of a driver, and as it happened it was Francois' last year. Anyone know how to get a copy??

Please let me know if you do find out where to get a copy. Did you ever see the Quick and the Dead about the 73 Season with Francois?

I would almost bet money that this is "The Quick and the Dead". After all that tape is done like a one on one interview session with Francois.

I spent an hour with Cevert at Watkins Glen before the Saturday afternoon practice session. Caught him coming out of a portable toilet behind the pits. Got his autograph on a photo I took of him earlier driving a Gitanes Matra at the Glen 6 Hour, chatted about racing. What a terrific guy. Women of all ages would walk by and stop to flirt with him. Standing next to him you felt like chopped liver, like these ladies had no idea anyone else existed except Francois.

Later, I was taking pictures of Jackie Stewart from on top of the Tyrrell pits, when Stewart rushed in, jumped out of his car, put his arms around a woman that I believe was Jean Pierre Beltoise's wife. Later someone told me that this woman was Cevert's sister. I knew something was very wrong when Helen Stewart started crying.

Francois' accident was very brutal. The double guard rails at the Glen were not well constructed.

    Stewart retired that afternoon.

What a bad weekend. I left the track and went back to my hotel. I had to show up Sunday for the race as I was on photo assignment, but in 25 years, that was my worst experience in racing. Everytime I see Stewart on TV, or in a photo, I think of that day, and Francois Cevert.

I do believe the movie you are talking about is the "Quick and The Dead". It is available, some guy in California has the master, and is selling DVD's. I would have to look through a lot of files to find the source, maybe somebody else here knows. SpeedTV ran it a few times last year, contact them, maybe they will repeat it this year.

Ditto that - I was at the Glen in '71 and 72...and same scenario , beautiful women following Francois around. Also, Ronnie Peterson had a following as well.

Not only was Cevert good-looking, he was also an accomplished pianist...

I think they cover it quite a bit in "The Flying Scot" also.

My bet is try to get in touch with this gentelmen he seems to be th only active member of the production team.

A call to SpeedChannel might also get you some answers as to who owns the distribution rights to the flick currently.

Found this on the net on a board from 2002.

"It is available on tape and DVD.....I did not write down the address only the phone number...USA..1-866-326-2268.
tape is I think 19.95us and the DVD is $24.95 US......." Number seems out of order however.

Using the number provided above (866-326-2268), I just spoke to the guy who has this film available. If you want a DVD copy, send a check for $35.90 payable to Forever Films to:
