Hey doods, I just watched an episode of Fifth Gear, and it showed Frank Mountain whith his Maser. MC12, and him puting it into the armco by taking it to a race track in the snow. Sorry if this is a repost, but just thaught it might be a good discusion topic, as allot of people seem to have differing opinions as to how cars like this should be used (if at all, for those who love garage queens).
I think that it's good that he is using it instead of letting it sit in a garage but I would at least be more careful. As it's one my faourite ever cars, so I am not happy about this at all.
you can have all the money in the world but why tear around a snow laden track with that car, the mind boggles at times, with all the publicity the price of the car has begun to drop---"driven in the snow, only one smash to date" sounds kinda comforting
I watched the whole Fifth Gear (d/led via Torrent) ... and it was quite good, although far from Top Gear level. Sounds like either Tiff or the guy with a lot of hair (1980 called ... they want him back asap) are always on the verge of bursting out laughing. Ok, they're having fun, but come on. As for the crash ... pfff, that's not even a crash!!! He nicked the rail, and just damaged the wing area. He even drove home, no big deal. The hood will be repaired, and that'll be the end of it. On the other hand, I'd have put some transparent adhesive film to protect from gravel chips. Call me weird, but scratching the rail is nice, but rock chips aren't! lol IMHO experiencing a supercar is not watching it in the garage or driving it off the trailer for some show ... experiencing a supercar is just like he does, drive 6h, wonder for an hour how you open the damn front hood, face unexpected situations. What will your grandchildren prefer as a story? "I flew there, the car was trailered there ... and flew back home because the track was snowy" or "I drove it to hell and back, smashed it, fixed it, hassled with its lack of functionality, ruined my back and ears ... but damn does it go!". There is no historical value to a brand spanking new MC12 ... as long as it doesn't get totaled (which wasn't gonna happen at the speeds he was going!!! lol) ... it's all good. Experience the car.
Zorro: that is my opinion too!!! The MC12 is a car, not a picture on a wall nor an investment. When I see some nice exotic cars to sale with less than 10'000 km after more than 2-3 years I think poor guys I hope they "benefit" more of their wifes!!! Today after 2.5 years, my Maserati have reached 109'000 km, I drive it on the snow (Switzerland), I crashed it almost entirely 2 years ago because too much rain and too much speed, I track it every time I can, lot of front chips, I clean it every week, it is dirty one day after... and I am very happy with my wife ;-) If I could by buy this kind of car (MC12) I would do exactly the same with it. The life is too short to not enjoy it every second. Carpe Diem.
I certainly would never even consider doing what he did with an MC12. But did you say that MC12 prices are dropping??
Casey, others... Google for "Fifth Gear [07x05]" and you'll find a few sources for the avi as a torrent download. Dunno what platform you're on... if Mac then Tomato Torrent will handle the download.
If it's the torrent file you're after, just go here and pick Fifth Gear : http://www.finalgear.com/downloads/
What's the story with this guy? I have read articles about him before. He competed in the Truefeo (Sp?) cup didnt he? I read about him in an article in CAR magazine, and he said he only owned an F40. That was about a year ago. Now i find out about the MC12, and an Enzo? Not to mention countless other cars. Did this guys stocks triple in one year?
Real Estate Developer ... in London, to boot! He'd have to be quite a dork not to be able to afford these toys! haha
To me this doesn't seem very wise. It's not so much fun doing this kind of stuff, it rather looks like "in yer face". Hey everyone, i have bucks, no brains, see what i can do. Of course you could buy a caravagio and burn it, just because you can, but would anyone say that's fun ? I guess this only works with old wine. And then again, only if you know what you drink. Again, someone said earlier it would be fun to tell his garndkids etc. but if one asks him why he did it, and he answers "because i could", i guess the kids will be crap (though the real answer would be, i wanted to be on TV)
Living in Canada, I can tell you that driving in the snow is a blast. It just doesn't get more fun. Powersliding your way at perefectly safe speeds is awesome. It is fun. A lot. Especially on a track!!!
Hi, in switzerland we have quite an amount of snow as well. I did a winter training on a frozen airfield with Maserati, it was really big big fun, drove rounds without ASR/ESP etc, it's really cool, and i never mind driving the 550 through bad weather. But indeed, you can have the same fun with a lesser car, and you don't need to waste a car that will be seen one day as a work of art (even if i don't like it....) simply because you can. It's not really what you expect from brits. But maybe you only find these kind of guys down under in NZ. It's a bit sad that people nowadays put some much value on money (...), and so few on style and class.
Doesn't this go against what you said earlier? Personally, I thought driving and eventually crashing the MC12 whilst driving on a snow-covered track has a tremendous "panache"!!! Something I'd be proud of. Not the crash itself, but the "I-can't-believe-you-did-that" kind of driving ...
> It's not really what you expect from brits. Dunno about the Brits that you've met... but how the British describe themselves is through the loving phrase "mad dogs and Englishmen" Mad dog signing out...
semi-on-topic, but as for exotics in the snow... here's a member of a Lambo board's car, set glands to "drool"....
