I just noticed while checking my oil that I have a frayed throttle cable on my 1984 308. Does anyone know how to replace the cable? Is it a difficult job? Can I just replace the cable or is it necessary to replace any related parts? Thanks in advance if anyone can help out.

It's very easy, I just replaced mine last year as it was also frayed on the pedal end. Replace them ASAP. The new cable comes as an complete assembly. Undo both ends of the cable then start from the rear and just feed it through the metal tube all the way to the front by the pedal. There's a gap between two tubes so you need to go under the car so you can feed it to the next tube. You need to remove or at least move the center console out of the way.

Looks like Trutlands has the cable for 65 bucks. For 65 bucks I guess I cant mess it up that bad if I try and change it myself. Thanks for your help.

The throttle cable is very easy to change, as Mike noted above. I changed mine a couple of years ago, it was similarly frayed. Just be careful to note where things go in the engine compartment.

Disconnect at the throttle pedal, look underneath to see where it transitions from the floor tube to the firewall tube; then pull out from the firewall tube, note how it routes under the intake manifold and connects to the throttle.

To get access at the throttle pedal, you only need to remove the forward piece of the console - 4 screws, done, no wire clips or anything else to worry about.

Seems straight forward. Thanks for the help. I'm just glad I noticed it when I did.
