okay i've got a great neighbor. he gave me a samsung spp4230 plasma tonight becouse the front glass cracked in shipping. -long story- anyway it turns on fine and works great except that the picture to me doesn't look good. now i don't know much about the plasma tv's but the picture looks oversaturated in color. i can't for the life of me figure out how to adjust it. anyone have any clues? the menu is sharp in focued but the picture sucks.

if it doesn't cost to much to fix i think i got i good deal;)

You need to look at a number of things:

Does this just happen when watching TV or does it also happen when watching DVDs?

If it's just the TV reception, then look at your aerial or cabling, or it could be that the tuning card may have got knocked during the impact.

What sort of cabling are you using - composite, component or RGB? RGB is better one, because it gives a clearer, crisper picture. Cheap composite cabling can cause colour bleeding.

Also some showrooms turn the colours up too high in their demo models. Using the on-screen menu to alter colour settings may reduce bleeding.

Another thing, don't install and mount the plasma on a tilting angle. This can stuff up the plasma gasses over time and permanently affect the quality of the display. (i.e. no putting it on the bedroom ceiling facing down towards the bed!)

    Sounds like a gd deal.........

I would think the front glass would be easy to change. The color is in the menu on my plasma, but it's not a Samsung. Are you sure that's the correct model number?

    What's wrong with the picture?

the modle number is correct, apperantly its a new i.e 4th generation plasma. the picture looks the same with iether dvd or cable. however i'll clarify the dvd i'm using is the PS2 so i can't really say thats a good benchmark. my good progressive dvd is hooked up to the theater room. i'm too tired tonight to unplug all those wires and hook up the plasma to it.

is my problem i'm not sending a dvi signal or a hd one?

i'll try and describe what the picture looks like.
the color saturation is way to high colors bleed into eachother and looks like my kid painted it by number. pixelated edges, and if you recal the old sets CRT it looks like the chroma is to high also. kinda like watching a low resolution image blown up 300%

Some manufacturers are phasing out DVI in preference to HDMI (HDMI is considered to be better).

This was on the Samsung electronics website under FQAs/Support at www.samsungelectronics.com:

    "2005-07-12 09:03:00

Question The Picture On My Plasma TV Is Fuzzy Or Blurry.

If the picture on your Plasma TV is fuzzy or blurry, chances are you have it connected to your cable box using the composite (standard, AV, Cable) or S-video connections. These are the lowest quality connections.

To improve your picture, try connecting your Plasma TV to your cable box using the Component (Pb, Pr, and Y) connections. If you have digital cable or you receive over the air digital programs, try using the digital DVI or HDMI connections.

Component and DVI connections carry video only. If you choose the Component or DVI connections, you must also connect the Left and Right Audio out on your cable box to the appropriate Left and Right audio in jacks on your TV. HDMI carries both video and audio. If you choose HDMI, you need to connect only the HDMI cable.

Note: If your cable box doesn't have Component, DVI, or HDMI connections, contact your cable company to see if they have replacement boxes with these kinds of connections built in.

Important: If you change the connections you use, make sure you use the Source button on your remote to change to the appropriate video source when you watch your TV."

BTW, here is Samsung's customer care helpline: 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864).

Of course a higher definition DVD player will also give better pictures on a large screen.

There is also a piece on the Samsung electronics website about using the menu to:
    1. restore factory settings
    2. changing colours and tinting.

Good luck! Hopefully the impact hasn't stuffed up the screen's display. At least the glass is replaceable!
