If this was true in the US, I might go from avowed used-ferrari buyer to new-ferrari buyer. Good grief that's gotta be 10-20k worth of service (annuals are $1200 where I live anyways and over seven years there's gotta be other time-based stuff called for in the service manual).

Confirmed the week with my Ferrari Dealer this will apply to the US. He did not know if the 2010 Californias would be covered. For sure, the 2011 will. My response was I will place my order when I get the extended service. If Ferrari does this, a lot of 2010 purchasers are going to be mad

Dealer confirmed to me all cars delivered after 15/3/11 will get 7 years free servicing. Not sure what happens if you took delivery on 1/3/11 when UK registrations change and historically more than average number of cars are collected.

So anyone know if this applies to the USA too? Are they going by order date or delivery date? This should be worldwide right? I think I saw recently from the dealer a note about this in their newsletter too.

Great, it's worldwide, yes, worldwide on delivery date or order date to provide the 7 year warranty? Mine's on the boat since mid-April, I'll pick it up before the end of this month. I want to know if I need to go beg and plead for the 7 year before I pick it up at the end of the month.

Its a worldwide scheme but the suggestion from Ferrari.com is that not all markets will introduce immediately

"This service will be progressively available in all Ferrari markets in the next few months and will involve the global authorised delearship network."

So far as I am aware no-one has yet confirmed here US cut-off/introduction date

If you are that worried why not call dealer or FNA ?

For those in the US, I just got the following message from my dealer:

"at this point it is only available in europe. We have not heard when it will be available here".

Isn't the rest of this thread fairly self-explanatory eg post 1 & 15 - particularly since you do not even reveal in which territory you are located ?

my usa dealer has not heard this. that would be shame to exclude loyal early customers who supported the first californias. its a new model and exact same car, why would they exclude us

It will not just be for Californias, but for all new Ferraris eventually. They have to start somewhere, and the servicing is an incentive to buy a new Ferrari, not a benefit for existing owners of a certain model. That servicing will be factored into list price for future buyers.

I don't think any of this is self-explanatory. Frankly its an amazingly confusing action by Ferrari. I can't imagine another business introducing a major benefit in such a haphazard and poorly communicated fashion...my businesses certainly would not have and could not have...

[allow space for Ferrari sycophants and apologists to insert reasons why Ferrari can and should get away with this...]

They clearly (we see them posting here) have confused both recent and pending/potential customers in virtually every market...

Are you saying that they will increase the sticker price by an amount based on expected costs of this program? (if yes, is that a guess, or do you know something?)

That would be interesting...I don't recall BMW doing that when they started it. It would be interesting to see if Ferrari could realize such a "price increase" in the market. That is essentially like a prepaid service program...interesting. Can't wait to see if they try that!

All costs are factored into list price. It may not happen immediately, but over time it will. Giving someone the equivalent of $500-1000 annually, Ferrari's cost, is not being done for charity. It is being done to attract new customers who are afraid of the costs of maintaining a Ferrari. We still have posts here on FChat asking about belt changes on F430s and 599s and whether the engines on Maranellos have to be pulled to change the cam belts. Free service means new buyers do not have to worry about any of that and that lack of worry carries over to subsequent owners within the 7 year period.

BMW's free service is tied to their onboard maintenance algorithms, so has not proven too expensive for them. Most new cars are pretty trouble-free for the first 5 years or so. Some Ferrari exceptions, but that is because owners do OT&E for the factory on new models.

New model Ferraris have longer service intervals on some fluids, too. Brake fluid was annually forever, but has now gone to every two years. Would not surprise me to see other extended intervals, so it will get more affordable for Ferrari, too, just like it did for BMW.

Not that we'll know, but is it safe to assume that since the dealer service costs will be greater will they be getting a bigger percentage of sales price or some sort of factory payment for the now free service?

I doubt it would be tied to the sale, rather I'd bet it would work like warranty work...the service dept bills Ferrari for the work at whatever rates/costs they have agreed. This would allow for any dealer to service the car and not tie the economics from the factory to the selling dealer (imagine if the owner moves for example).
