Hello all! Been a while since I've posted. Anyway, I ran across this technology the other day on youtube designed by Koenigsegg. This tech would remove the need to have timing belts, valve jobs, while increasing horsepower, torque, fuel efficiency. I believe this would be the single greatest upgrade for any belt driven Ferrari engine. I don't know when this tech will be available, but I would be willing to convert in a second.

    Take a look

This technology was being tested by both Ferrari and General Motors and probably everyone else at least as far back as 1985. It is nothing new. Cost and reliability have been known issues.

Wasn't it the VW is the one using the solenoids now for their valves?

On which model? Maybe solenoids are used for variable their cam timing, but I don't think anyone manufacturer has a camless engine.

    Brian,

Didn't know this. What were these companies using for timing and opening and closing of the valves?

Everybody's looked into it. Lotus designed a system in the late eighties or early nineties - I think research for a client (you'd be surprised the number of car companies with Lotus tech somewhere). The current draw made it non-viable. The Koenigsegg might have gotten around that hurdle, but I doubt it.

I wouldn't ever doubt christian von koenigsegg. He is an amazing engineer with the money to back it up. I believe he created many of the Flex Fuel systems in place now. He does have it running in development. Sure we would have to see custom heads made for our cars and that isn't happening - but could you imagine no more belts!
