Haven't found any online info, but heard on radio news that something like 9 French Navy fighers & a French weather plane were too low on fuel to return to carrier off East coast. After landing in New Jersey, they were not allowed to leave until the fuel had been paid for. Apparently they are still stuck there to this point.

To bad nobody thought to bring their credit card on the sortee :)

I heard that the real story was that they saw some fireworks over Atlantic City, thought they were under attack and landed to surrender!

Those weren't fireworks - they were kites.

US Navy pilots can fly and land in ANY weather, and I am sure it's the same with the French Navy.

They're probing our defense for gullibility...

They landed without prior permission? They are foreign military aircraft from a nation not particularly friendly to the US?

Remember when France would not even allow our planes to overfly their nation during the 1986 attacks on Libya?

Impound the planes, send the pilots to Gitmo for interrogation as possible terrorists. If it proves they are in fact not terrorists.... let them go in a couple of months. Keep the planes forever.

If the French dont like it.... tell Chirac to suck on it. If the French people dont like it, tell them to vote in a US friendly Govt. or dont expect US friendly actions.

Yeah, they're trying to invade you. LMFAO!!

You see, some countries care less about wars and paranoia than the US ...

It was in P&R but I figured it was more funny than political so I moved it here.

IIRC the "Super Etendard" is not all weather capable.

Either that or Donald Trump has a new croissant chef.

European military jets on American soil!? It has been a while since that happened. Maybe some Air Force Fchatters know if the Europeans regularly train with their jets in the United states or not?

The Germans bring some of their jets for training excercises and I saw the Russian's SU-27 flight demo team a few years ago.

no it's just because gas is 1.15 euro per liter in france so it's cheaper to fly to the us to full tanks

Well, atleast the French jets did not do much harm. I remember that our Jets cut some ski lft cables while on routine training missions. Ended up killing a few innocent tourists. It was a PR mess!

The FAA Tech Center where the planes and crew landed is right down the street from the dealership! Should I hop in the 328 and buzz the tower "Maverick" style like in Top Gun? You know, to give them that friendly "Welcome to NJ" feeling... ;)
