Stumbled across this in the "other racing" forum... Great news to read that it's coming back. Surprised no mention of it here in the LA forum. Based on this earlier post I assume the track events will be at NOLA Motor instead of No Problem.
Everyone: Yes the French Quarter Classic VII is coming back. Franco and I are deciding on details. The FQC will be centered around a two day track/race extravaganza at NOLA motorsports park. As we are centering activities at NOLA, the second day will take the place of the concorso. The highlight of the FQC VII will be the FCRA Championship finale (see www.ferrariclubracing.com). We will also open the two day Track event to all Ferraris. I can promise you the track event will be spectacular, FQC style. Like in years past we are inviting all Louisiana based cars, previous FQC participants, and extending invites to all FCRA racers. (public spectating will be offered). As it develops we will share details. Feel free to contact me directly with thoughts, or if you'd like to volunteer to help. [email protected]
John, Is there any particular reason why you don't want to have the concorso? You'll have had some spectacular concorsos in great settings like Royal Street and I know people enjoy seeing the cars. Kent
Kent: There are politicos and residents that give us a hard time, and the Logistics are difficult. Our focus is going to be at the NOLA facility. We will have all the cars at two days displayed at the event at NOLA. We will invite the public, and do something for charity. I may also do a brunch/display at my home on St. charles. For anyone that wants to volunteer to help, we need the help. Please email [email protected]
We are working out the final details now and invitations will be going out soon. The French Quarter Classic this year will feature the final round of the FCRA championship at Nola Motorsports Park on November 4-5. All of the car events will be at the track this year, and will feature FCRA races Friday and Sat at 1;30 pm each day. The FQC, track event will be open to all Ferrari owners at $250 per day. (Ferraris only) and will include lunch, entry for a your Ferrari at the track event, and tickets for two. The FCRA races will include about 30-40 Ferrari Challenge cars (430/360/355) all competing in the championship. The event may be televised and there will be tickets available for spectators. If you would like an advance invitation or be placed on the list, please email [email protected]
John, Thanks for the update. I'm lobbying hard for a strong FChat presence: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=140654604#post140654604 I'm sure you've got far more stroke than me; make it happen! Steve
I took a ride out to NOLA Motorsports Park yesterday and things seem to be shaping up. I have never seen so much earth moving equipment in one place! Sure hope all this rain won't delay completion?
The track will not be ready in time to host the FQC in 2011, so we must postpone until next year. The FCRA Round 6, is moving to Daytona on nov. 10-12, due to excessive rain that has pushed back the track completion. The good news is that the FQC will host either the opening round of the 2012 FCRA season, or will host the final round. We are looking at doing it the week before Mardi GRAS or in late October early November. We will keep you posted.
Wonder if we could get enough local particants to have a track day at the new track once it opens. I heard it was 9K to rent but perhaps he would offer an intro rate to get interest going.
Franco and I will organize an FCRA test day shortly after it opens, and we will invite all local F-car owners, and previous FQC participants.
For those fans of the French Quarter Classic, as you may know we had to cancel the event this year, but Franco and I are working to finally bringing it back next year. I've been getting a lot of questions about the event and when we will finally bring it back, so here is a recap: As many of you know, Franco and I began the event over a decade ago, to bring together like minded Ferrari enthusiasts to New Orleans for charity. The FQC main focus was law enforcement charities, and the FQC became a very popular national event. Katrina cancelled our event in '05, and both Franco and I set up satellite businesses in Houston. Franco has continued a smaller event in Houston and has organized related charities there. We also began assisting with a sister event in Florida called the Celebration Exotic car festival, which was started by a longtime FQC participant and was modeled after the FQC. Although not law enforcement based it donates it's funds to childrens charities. In addition to working with their charity auction I founded the Ferrari Club Racing Association (FCRA), to run Ferrari challenge races at Celebration and other events. Those of you may recall that we ran a very small challenge race at the last FQC in 06-07. The FCRA has been wildly successful, and it has always my intention to bring it back to it's roots in New Orleans as part of the FQC. The FCRA is also non profit, and the idea was to bring it back and run the final race in new Orleans at the FQC for the benefit of our law enforcement related charities. We have been waiting to do this in conjunction with the opening of the fabulous NOLA motorsports. In the meantime the former participants and organizers of the FQC, have not been idle. Many of the people who have raised over $300k for children's charities for the sister Celebration event, and have raised over $450k for law enforcement charities in Houston have commitments to make the FQC a success when it does come back. We thought the FQC could take place in Nov, but the track will not quite be ready. Therefore we intend to bring it back the last week in October or the first week in November. The idea has always been that the FCRA would support the FQC by hosting it's final championship race at the event. This will be the case next year. I know this is a long time from now for the participants (and charities for that matter), so we are going to host an FCRA testing and licensing day. We will open this to all Ferrari owners and will have an open Ferrari track day sessions for street cars. (we haven't decided on non Ferrari cars at the event but we might) We are working with the track for dates but expect it in late Jan, or early Feb. Spectators will be invited. We will also introduce our upcoming charity for the FQC at the event as well. I look to meeting all of you then.
NO! I have been waiting for this for years. Edit: Yes it is correct. I joined the forum in 04 and my first post was today. Ha. Talk about a lurker.
