Hope the attachement shows up. I removed the panel, in the trunk, next to the antenna motor. Here is what I found. There is one silver relay, and another black relay attached to the longer black device. Which would be the freq. valve replay? 84 Modial QV cab.?

    Thanks all.

This only applies if your car has K-Jetronic injection with Lambda. The US spec QV 84-85 should have the lambda FI unit.
Your photo seems the right place. On my 88 its in the right rear trunk area under a panel. Frequency Valve relay or technically called "protection relay" is in RED.

Ask Daniel if he has a new relay if you need it.

Wow, it's no wonder that your cold-running might be poor -- since you are completely missing a second relay that should be mounted on the black base. If a Mechanic thought removing it "improved" things, you've probably got some other (as yet unidentified) trouble that necessitated action in the first place.

That silver "Wehrle" relay may be a overvoltage protection relay with an internal fuse (I have no data), but your replacement (hopefully ;)) will be the latest 4-pin Stribel overvoltage protection relay with an external fuse -- ensure that you connect the wire colors to the 4-pin Stribel protection relay terminals as per the previous posts (do not assume that the physical location of the terminals on each relay is the same).

Are you trying to set a record for the most threads started in fettling a single (molested) K-Jet with Lambda F? ;)

I would also suggest a thorough cleaning of that entire board, all the connectors and consider replacement of the relays because they are not sealed well.

That board, strategically placed under the antenna mast and motor often gets wet if there are any leaks where the mast goes through the fender, if the drain hose is not attached or if there is a leak where the drain hose goes through the hole into the wheel well. Or a leak around the side marker light come to think of it.

Something has happened to yours from the looks of the pictures and a little corrosion goes a long way to cause running issues.

Check out this Lambda box...The 5-connector ground lug beneath the antenna was just a mound of corrosion! Driveability problems? Absolutely...Once the grounds and connectors were cleaned/repaired and the pooched Lambda box replaced, the FV then functioned correctly.

The relay with the internal fuse is NLA anywhere. I had a nightmare trying to replace mine. I ended up with one from a wrecked QV, then a new one with the external fuse that required some rewiring, then ended up getting another knowledgeable mechanic who did something completely different.

Found It! When removing the board to check the underside condition, there was a relay lying in the bottom of the compartment, see photos. You are correct about this area collecting moisture and corroision, the relay blended in with the rust and dirt, found it when I was removing the loose corrosion up in prep for major cleanup.

Next question, where can I purchase replacement relays for the car, I need a couple for the front fuse panel as well. Do those sold at the local chain stores work, or are these F-specfic items? Most are stamped Bosch 20/30A

Thanks for the help, moving on.

Oh, I'm on vacation this week watching the kids, they are out of school the whole week for Mardi Gras! Trying to get done what I can between episodes of Sponge Bob.

    Regards,
    Mark

The small relays are pretty generic and a parts house should be able to match them up.

Buy a can of electrical cleaner and a couple of tooth brushes while your are out.

In researching the electrical diagrams, it appears the missing relay is the one for the Catalityc Converter, the seller told me this was a cat delete car, i think he may have removed the converter, and installed one of those cat delete pipes with an O2 sensor. Looks new, polished SS, not greasy like the surrounding areas...

I bought it from a Porsche dealer. I want to say it was about $90.00.
I posted a while back with a problem that my car ran rough at idle. Steve M. advised me through the problem. (With sincere thanks!)
I replaced the relay and all is good.
Do a search for my thread. It may be helpful.

The Porsche part number for that relay is 92861512402 and list price is about $90 and readily avialable.

I just looked back at my prior post when I had the same problem many found that I actually purchased the relay from Daniel at Riccambi. It was about $80.00 and I received it very quickly.
I was also reminded while reading my prior post of how much help Steve Magnusson was to me and continues to for others

Steve, I need to find a way to reciprocate. Your advice was incredibly helpful.

Day late and a dollar short, I just ordered the relay from Ricambi, it is now $140.00 + shipping!! Was yours a direct replacement or did you have to rewire the connectors?

    Thanks.
