We just bought a 2009 Merc with only 14,000 miles but it has a stale smoke smell inside. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the smell? Thanks.

Buy or find out who has an ozone producing machine, place it in the car overnight, windows up, air out the car after for several hours, smell should be gone.

I would use coffee (powder) instead. But it probably will only diminish and not solve the problem. Nevertheless it`s worth trying.

I agree with the ozone (O3) generator. Just don't get one of those little doodads that plugs into your cigarette lighter. They advertise those to smokers and they don't work anyway. Basically, if you can be in the car with it on, the O3 output isn't high enough to be effective. If it is high enough, well, you just better not be in there. But the O3 is unstable and will turn back into O2 within a few hours. O3 is one of the most powerful disinfectants available. People sometimes say the interior has no smell (at all, good or bad) as opposed to clean, fresh, or new, etc.

Most of the odor is probably in the carpet and mats since I take it the rest is leather.
Shampoo the carpets, if you dont you'll only be masking the odor. Blue Magic has good carpet cleaning product, work well and leave behind stain guard.
