Took it out this morning, fuel gauge dead, all the way left, no 'low fuel' light on, and I know the tank is near full. After 10 miles or so, I notice the gauge is twitching. Closer I get to home, more twitching until in front of the house it swings to half full, after I have switched the ignition off and then on again. I pull it into the driveway and the gauge moves almost all the way right, registering correctly.
    What's going on here.

Sounds like a bad connection - start with having a look at/cleaning the spade connections on the top of the LHS tank.

Left hand side fuel tank. If you look at it from the engine bay you will see a round thing on the top of it with 3 wires connected to it - that is the fuel gauge sender.

Also inspect the connection to ground.

Agree, probably a bad ground. !st try pounding on the dash in different location to see if the gauge changes.

I know it sounds rather archaic in today's, world but it can tell you if you have a loose connection in the cockpit!
