In the monthly Pro Mod event at Texas Raceway in Kennedale, my friend Gene Hector won the event. He runs a small block 63 Vette look-a-like. Ran a 4.1 et the first round, a 4.004 the second and a 3.981 in the final. He had a .21 reaction time in the final and beat Ken Thomas who ran a 3.94. Kens reaction time was slower than Gene's was allowing his Gene's slower et to still finish ahead.

His small block puts out something over 2500hp.. on racing gas, no nitrous or nitro. He is just now getting the new car dialed in. It has suffered from wheel shake at midstrip for the past few races. He always qualifies well but seems to lose it in the second round as the more consistent runners narrow the field down. He is looking to run 3.70's by next month. We will see. That is really hooking it up.

www.smallblockmafia.com is the team website showing both the old car and the new camo-painted new one.

This is the car that won the event on July 10.. It is actually last years car that he is using to back up the new car. He has been having wheel shake on the new car but this car always ran pretty consistently. He says it is about at its limits. If they can get the wheel shake problem fixed the new car will do .20 quicker than the old one.

I certainly will. It is about as far from a real Vette as you can get. Pure shell of a body. But for all us Vette lovers it is great to have something to cheer for.

They were originally called Pro Mod. Now they are Pro Extreme. No limit on cubic inches or induction system. If they run nitrous they can only be fuel injected but if they run a supercharger, as most of them are, they can only run racing gasoline. About 110 octane.

Genes is based on a small block but actually has about 500 cubic inches and 2500 hp. Some of the others run big blocks with 700 cubic inches or more. That is why he is so popular with the fans. He is running at a cubic inch disadvantage.
