When Peter and I did the Adelaide Hills Tarmac last year, (which I didnt win but did beat Goober :) ), we had no nannies of any sort......car is 4wd but 30/70 set up for tarmac rallies. No traction control, no ASP, ESP, ASR, RSA, or any other acronyms........and we did have a dodgy set of R-specs........careful use of the "level of talent" button and a big twist on the "understand your limitations" knob helped a lot!

Goobs, I have not had the chance so far to say congrats on the Tassie....sorry to hear you and Simon had to withdraw because of the alternator issue but just getting there is a hell of a hurdle.......I hate that! Damn, that car of yours is one sexy looking thing and you have prepared it well.....If I didnt own mine, I would try to figure out a way to own yours........ I am not going to make it to Adelaide this year......I have had navigator withdrawals and although a couple of false starts but could not convince anyone to sit in the pass seat......good luck and bring home the trophy......

What is ASR out of interest. I assume it something to do with traction control.

if the sh!tbox can make 2 days then we have a chance.....................................

then again we have a new "Ferrari" alternator and "Ferrari" kill switch

we have worked out the problem

to date, when the car was purchased it didnt have the factory alternator, so we didnt know what the proper thing was. The Alt on the car is rated at 110 amps, the factory one is 150 amps.......there is one problem, second dilema the after market alternator has its positive terminal in a different location to the factory one. The modification by PHR or whoever put a steel "L" shaped bracket for the positive terminal to sit on. Great, steel is a great resistor of current, the "L" shaped bracket should have been made from copper or brass......but to save money steel was used. The result is that steel conducts current but heats up and gets red hot and melts anything in its vacinity........the kill switch can and does wear out, if not enough contact is made the system arcs.....bingo.

so now the factory alternator has the positive at the rear of the alt, and the bracket will be put in the sh!thouse

ASR is on a 360 CH

    ABS off or on
EBD (electronic brake force Distribution) off or on
ARS stability and traction control off or on

on the 360ch a switch and just one switch can be used to toggle it all off or all on......................hence if you think you are michael schumacher then turn it off, i will never be schumi so we drive when the conditions suit with it on

    You are effing joking!
What a dodgie bros bodge up that would've been.
Its not like any auto-lec or wreckers isn't full of them in all shapes and sizes or it'd take more than a moment to make one up in brass or copper.
Guess someone was asleep when they covered fuses and buses in theory at tech during his apprenticeship.

sadly he's not joking, and since phil always called this car 'one of his babies', it's possibly a good bet that he did that work.

    no surprise for me.

Holy ****! Thanks for putting me off EVER owning a Range Rover Sport. :D:D

Yeah, the average alt costs around $300-$400 for a stocko 85-100 amp unit. So $1500 for a "Ferrari" alt that pumps out 150 amps is pretty reasonable. :):)

Mate....I just bought a second for mine and had the battery changed on my first one and the all up bill including the "recoding" was $339.00.

Maybe there are different keys? I have the "flick-knife" key with the three buttons on the front.........(shrugs)

There must be different keys.........as usual, I end up with the poverty pack option! I once went to get a key for my Mrs 325i and they wanted $900 for that....... I thought that was bad.........but as an interesting aside, the RR has been exceptional on parts.......everything I have need to buy for it, which hasnt been much, I have done a price comparison against the X5 which we have and it has been hugely cheaper...........I think with the K's I do in it.........41k since I bought it in July last year , it has been the most economical SUV we have owned......I'd have another in a flash!
