Sometime in model year 87, the lower cowling on the 328 was changed. My 87 had an extension that dropped about 2 inches below the rest of the pan just in front of the right wheel. It was always dragging and made the car difficult to drive on the street regularly.

I recently drove another 87 which had that low spot removed. The later car also had the new style inside door handles. I don't know if those changes were made concurrently.

Does anyone know the serial number when the cowl was changed? It was a significant improvement in my opinion.

Well THAT is a fascinating post!

I have an 87 328 just like yours, and like you say, just the wrong combination of bumps and "scrape!". I too would love to hear from anyone who knows what's up with that low point. I'd sure love to raise mine!

    Best!

That low spot contains the AC condensor and fan. There's nothing in the Ferrari UK parts catalogue to indicate that the design was ever changed.

In fact, looking at photos of a late 89 at http://ferrari328.com/registry/82206/index.php?record=82206 shows the extension is still there on the right side

That part of the spoiler/pan can be removed separately. Perhaps someone decided to take out the AC components and replace the shaped part with a flat one.
