I have owned this beauty since new in July of 85. In the past few years, I have noticed that upon an initial drive, I get a muted clattering noise coming from the front end of the car. The crazy thing is that is seems to dissapear when the car warms up.
I have looked aroud under the front end and there is nothing that I can see but I am no mechanic. The car has only 29K miles since new and by the way looks showroom fresh.
    Any ideas out there?
Thanks and a wonderful New Year to all,
    Denny

I'm betting its the Konis. Mine did it in the back. It went away when they warmed up. I replaced bushings, rebuilt the entire rear suspension, and finally replaced the shocks and that did it.

I have noticed similar rattling over rough surfaces on #20405 lately, my money is on a missing/worn sway bar bushing, or a lose shock mount.....better let a shop look at yours, I know I am.....

I would definitely guess a bushing as my first guess except that he says it tends to go away when the car warms up and that was the exact thing with my Konis. Afert you have driven a few miles and they have pumped up and down a few zillion times, they must warm up internally enough for whatever it is that causes the noise to stop.

By the way, don't bother having them rebuilt. Just buy new ones. Ask me how I know!

Thanks to all that responded. I guess I am off to buy some shocks! Would you stick with Konis?

Terrible that they only last 22 years!
