Despite the history of mid engined v-8 Ferraris, what are the chances that ALL future F-cars will be front engined, as that layout makes for a much more practical roadworthy auto???

None if you ask me....mid-engined is better for handling overall. Plus I think it lends to more aggressive designs.

As soon as the F1 cars go to front-mounted engines, we'll know that front-engined is the better layout.

The counterpoint is that all the traction control/handling technology now can make for a front-engined car that exceeds whatever most of us would ever demand. So mid-engined will live on only in the hardcore sports cars, IMO. The touring cars have to carry golf clubs, suitcases, etc., and will probably always be front-engined.

What are the chances that future F-cars will keep getting bigger & bigger?

Wider, longer, taller, and larger displacement.

And of course they are getting more reliable, sophisticated, and performance always increases.

But will they ever introduce something smaller, simpler, a pure driving car? Or is that market segment left to Lotus & the mainstream producers.

This is starting to sound like a "bring back the dino" whine. sorry

"Practical"? If you want practical by an SL65. If you want art on wheels buy a Ferrari! Ok, a pre-360 Ferrari! Ferraris are about feel. Mid-engine gives the vehicle a unique dynamic. Practical!?! Yes but only to the extent it does not compromise the "Ferrari" experience.
