So going through my new car and I couldn't get the front hood to open.

I was able to release it with the emergency cable but the normal latch opens on the driver's side of the hood while the passenger side seems to stay locked.

Did some searching and saw mention of adjusting a "locating pin" on the hood.

The only two pins I see look to be welded and non-adjustable so I'm trying to figure out what I need to adjust to get this to open with the normal mechanism.

    Thanks for any help.

I had a recalcitrant latch that I found wouldn’t release if tightened to much against the firewall. The fix was to turn the latch mounting screws a single turn loose.
There are two screws on each latch.

I wouldn't move anything yet. I'm sure this has worked in the past with the pin where it is - assuming you haven't messed with the hood panel. I would troubleshot the latches. You can push the latches to the closed position with a screwdriver and then see if they open with the lever. Mine open with a strong authoritative snap. The right latch is sort of bolted onto the main cable for the left. Perhaps that pinch bolts has moved or bent?

Good idea I still have it open and haven't done anything yet... charging the battery so I'll give that a shot!

So basically they poor hinges just needed to be cleaned and lubricated.

I cleaned them thoroughly and then used some graphite lock lube for the mechanisms. Checked the cables and they looked good, no fraying so I tried what you said Brian and just locked them down by hand and popped them and both of them snapped right up.

So I took a deep breath and closed the hood and then popped it and it didn't make the same "POP" sound as it did before so my heart sank... thinking it didn't open on either side this time.

In actuality it was just so clean it didn't make any noise and they both popped open perfectly :)

Now on to the seat that won't go back!

My turn with the front latch (83 gtb). First time it's not opened using the standard release. Emergency release worked. Followed the earlier note about cleaning and lubricating, didn't help. The cable feels a bit spongy when operating it, the sear moves about half of what it needs to release. So with all that said, is there a way to adjust the cable on the drivers side latch?

From Verell over in the tech q&a forum

Lift the bonnet & start by lubricating the latch mechanism with white lithium grease. Use the spray kind so you can get it into the area where the mechanism pivots. You can use a phillips screwdriver to lock the latch. Lock & release a few times & notice where the parts rub each other. Lube the rub areas.

Might give it a couple of shots of oil first, not 3in1, but at least 20W oil. Elec. motor oil in same hw store shelf as 3in1 is 20w.

Next get a 'cable luber' & cable lube from a motorcycle shop, ebay, etc.
You adjust the cable by loosening the fastener that attaches it to the latch mechanism. While you've got the cable off, lube the latch cable.

When reinstalling the cable, lock the latch mechanism, pull on the cable while tightening the fastener. This way all the slack is out of the cable.

When first trying the cable after all this, be gentle to be sure it's not too tight. The black latch housings are pretty fragile, so be gentle. When everything's right, a moderate pull on the housing should release the latch.

If you still have to pull hard on the cable, try removing the latch housing & lubing the cable from that end.

If still requires a hard pull, good chance that the cable is frayed inside it's jacket & you need to replace it.

Interesting that US cars have 2 latches but Euro cars only have one.

Ok, my Christmas vacation project has gone a little awry. New cable and cabin release purchased as both were modified by a PO and badly stretched/frayed and artfully modified [emoji19]to the point of probable failure (lasted 20+ years I've owned her, so can't complain too much). The surprise when taking the drivers side latch apart was the "upgrade" to the latch. Looks like they drilled out where the cable goes through to make accept the second latch's cable in as well and removing the original #8-36 allen (grub) screw.
What should this really look like? The manual diagrams are way too small to show enough detail to figure out how the cables were originally on for both the drivers side and passenger side.
Thoughts on trying to reuse this or go back if possible to original state? Image Unavailable, Please Login

    Any thoughts??
Use steel cable with heat shrink to pull the old cable back into the car interior and then use that to pull the new back through?

Got it completed. undoing PO issues that I inherited. Existing cable looked to be the exact same as what is used to hang large pictures. Close to 2x the diameter of the replacement SS cable from Maranello UK along with a new pull. Pin at the top of the pull where the spring is, had worked its out of the left side and wasn't supporting the handle.
    Latches now work perfectly.
